Discussion Why I Think NUF Will Get a Surge in Popularity Again

We all know that the older generation of members have been slowly moving on to other things in life, I've known some members here since I started, and some that I have lost.

However, before these losses NUF was thriving, the community was not dead, and we were all blowing in excitement back when popular novels were making their way into the Forums and part of people's recommendations. For the last 4 years I've been here, not once was I sad or disappointed in everyone.

It was only this year that we saw a drought in the number of people visiting and interacting on the forum. People now have more time on their hands then ever before, and even I feel like I'm wasting my time by sitting on my bed and chair; not because I'm being unproductive but because this doesn't feel right.

People are spending more time on catching up with things, be it movies, tv shows, dramas, social media, youtube, porn, games, asking yourself to spend your long-but-finite amount of time on reading in place of these activities can only prove to wear you down at times. Long reading sessions can feel worse than if you just watched a video on or watched a movie to pass the time.

This is definitely not the year for novels, not like it was three years ago, when we had works such as "Everyone Else is a Returnee" pumping out with such popular chapters, courtesy of the super machine @Chamber shifting gears to 11 just to release 6 chapters in a day; all with amazing quality. However, I still think NUF will get populated once again with a positive community, if not now, some day.

This is the reason why I think ScribbleHub works so well, it's because they're a bubbling hub of creation, very different from NUF, where we look at other's creations and pray to god that the author doesn't every drop their novels since the community over there did not support them.

Scribblehub has the benefit of taking the ideas that worked so well in so many foreign works over the past few years and giving it their own little twists. There's no language barrier, there's no need to MTL, all you need to do is just give it your all and good things will happen there.

At least, that is what I think.

Haven't started a new series in about 4 months though, when uni started. I'll get back into it when my unread pile is smaller.

For me, NUF has always been alive. There are natural ups and downs.

Nuf hasn't ever experienced any major surge of unpopularity. It's mostly just people's perception since people you're close with aren't active as much. Early 2016 waa when community games and shit posts were most active but other area's aren't too that different from before from what I've seen

I've always just gone with the "make tons of low effort threads about whatever I think about all the time" strategy. I think people got mad at me last time for making too many threads, so keep in moderation.

scribblehub is actually productive as opposed to nuf, people make a decent income on their patreon by the fans of their novels. Nuf sadly, is unproductive, you can have fun yes, but too much is not good in any way. Also not to mention the novels uploaded here are not original works, they are translated works and many a times translated without permission. And it gets more controversial imo if they make money out it. On the other side, in profiles and stuff we make friends, but those friends eventually leave us with frankly hardly any mutual productive benefit. I get it, its fun, and its rude in the first place that i say "no benefits" but still spending too much time here is not good at all. I was addicted af, not a great experience.

(also i didn't get the part where you said "pray that the author drops their novels" you meant "pray that they DON"T drop their novel"?)

Basically, whenever someone you follow makes a new thread/blog, you get a notification about it.

You can opt out of it in your settings, but it's on by default IIRC.

It depends on what you are looking for~

I don't come here to make money, just to read and have fun. There is no such thing as too much fun. \o/ So I get all the benefits I'm looking for.

Also, as a writer I am hesitant to hang around a group of writers. Ideas and language is like a virus, if you aren't careful you will catch other people's ideas and plots and think they are your own. You can do it even unknowingly so.... I don't share my writing like that online.
