There are lots of isekai novels where the MC is transported to a world that is quite alike to the medieval period of the mc's original world. It's a trope already. But why medieval? Because it's the dark age? What's so interesting about this era that authors keep using it?

Coz scifis popularity declined when isekai craze started. And magic is easy to get in a medieval like world. There are quite a bit of world war based ones too.
And most writers wont be able to write about stone age soooo

In my opinion it's far simpler to write about, as you can pretty much half-ass it without even the basic knowledge, like I'm pretty sure you don't know what a Sabaton is, but if I told you the "sole-of-his-metal-boots" then you'll know.

This sound interesting in its own way. More of a man vs nature type story.

Eh, often it's not even medieval, but a hodgepodge of historical era of Europe

    Oops, :blobsweat::blobpats:
I could imagine writing about a not so developed world without having the need to compare to the medieval era. That way, the world building be more solid. But yeah, inventing new terms is fine. Author is god.

Basically because sword and shield genre is one of the basis of what originated all this was literally born from Conan the Barbarian which is medieval
When you combine it with the most famous "fantasy" book being Lord of the rings which is also medieval you start to create a pattern. Moo

It also helps that the time in which there was a bigger believe in magic and other esoteric ideas was around the start of medieval age moo
(Remembering that medieval age just ended in XV which was the start of the discovery age when Europe started to sail to colonize other places like the Americas)
    Mooo-

As previously stated, it's cause it's easier to write. It has the balance of having chaotic environment, medium rate of information transfer and bias.

It's because this is the setting for Dragon Quest. There is no deeper meaning because the writers generally don't give the setting any deeper thought. It also helps that everyone uses this setting so the writer has even less work to do!

I mean, every protagonist there does the whole, "I'm gonna show these guys how to do...how to find...how..." and other random crap.

Then they explain the reason as to why these were never developed with, "The world has magic so the idea of bathing...the idea of stoves...the idea of restrooms...and that's why toilet paper was never made," authors can only go so far until they start spouting some JK Rowling level of "actually..." crap.

Because if a clueless idiot like most MCs are get tossed into a sci-fi setting, he'll get vapouried in 30 seconds. At least sword swinging savages gives him a chance to overawe them and make himself out to be a god, which is the only way most of them survive.

-Adventure Guild encounter in Medieval setting-
    "Kids shouldn't be here."
-pulls out sword and gets recked by MC-

-Adventure Guild encounter in Scifi setting-
    "Kids shouldn't be here."
-stuns MC with phaser and tosses him outside-

    See the difference? :p

I wonder if someone out there made a series that starts the sort of Victorian era, where guns and blades were the common thing, and shields were a dying form of defense.

Eh? So nothing makes that setting interesting?
Lol, I actually dislike when author goes that route. It's like trying to make the MC too much of an awesome person compared to the actual residents.
