I always wonder why the hell the Characters in a apocalyptic world want to live so much.
The world is basically destroyed.
Some wooping virus spread and people turn into zombies etc...
Is it false hope?,
Or it's just their survival instinct driven to the max.

If I was them I would literally kill my self on the spot lol.
There's no way I would be fighting zombies, and racked my brain to find some solutions.
Nope. Y'all can call me weak-willed or something but I know my limits and I won't.

Because of plot reasons, no person will want to read about a protagonist wanting to die in a apocalypse. 'It's just not fun' some people would say and authors write novels either for fun or to make a living. Authors who write to pay their bills will probably write things that stick tot the trend, trying new things can be scary especially when your in a career such as being an author. Honestly a protagonist actively looking for ways to die in a apocalypse would be an interesting premise.

 

Because they need to want to live for the story to continue. Don't question things too much, novels are written by humans, most webnovels are written by authors who either do it as a hobby or to pander to certain audiences, so it's inevitable that some problems do occur
Like, I, a mesanthropist, personally believe that humans wouldn't fare well in a world with other equally/more intelligent races with longer lifespans. I also believe that a civilization built on science would be crushed by one built on magic. But most novels here pander to other audiences so those two premises aren't fulfilled, usually, so I've learnt not to question things

 

Where there is a will there is a way. I'm zombie number 3,865,445 but im sure there are crazy people out there who will survive but not me.

 

Because your hormones and nervous system work in conjunction to trigger your fright, fight, flight or freeze (in readiness for the next course of action) response. There's also the "faint". I don't think I can recall any "f*ck, I'm out" among the responses listed (tho "faint" should get you there, eventually if not immediately).

 

But what happens after all the adrenaline cools off, will you want to off yourself or keep going?

To honestly and realistically answer your question, in a real life situation where a thing like a deadly virus, war or disaster the first thing someone can think of is survival. If you didn't immediately think of killing yourself when something disastrous happens you'd probably want to survive right?

 

Keep going. I can't see the future, so there's no guarantee I won't make it out alive. I'll trust my instincts then.

 

Yes, what would be the use in surviving a world where everything is destroyed? I mean I get it if you have family or friends with you but if your alone you'd probably want to die.

A rational point of view. I get it. Honestly I agree with that, you don't know if it'll get better or worse, or if you survive but you have your instincts leading you on. I like that.

 

There's only one reason!!! And that is they are protagonist!!!!
After all only a person who have strong will to live can survive in a world like that.... And if protagonist wasn't like that the novel would end in 1 or 2 chapter because protagonist would probably be dead.......

 

If you're going to die anyway, you might as well try to live.......

 

The ones who off themselves won't be the protagonists of the novel. We're reading about the ones with a strong survival instinct. There are people who'd do their best to live no matter how much the circumstances against them are - war, poverty, hunger. There are enough examples in our modern world.

At least you tried right?, I'll be proud of that, honestly trying to survive while watching the world slowly being destroyed is something else lol.

 

it would be fun to read a parody where mc makes no effort to survive but someone keeps on saving him and he makes it till the end somehow
Add to that mc has zero will to live and this is his perfect chance to die but every time he goes to die, he lives and he is seen as a heroic sacrificial dude
