Recently chinese government cracking down on big tech, for example blocked merger between huya and douyu ( both owned by tencent btw) and cracking down tencent music. Anyways, what do you guys think
One thing you can count on with china is that the government doesn't like giant corporation with billions. it too much power over ppl and they don't like losing control over the ppl, but they can't just go after every billionaire or they will lose investors and the faith of other companies. once in a while they will hammer 2-3 nails that stick out slowly put everyone in their place. The slow poison injection method.
I'd hope they get broken up. It'd be better if they could get busy with legal battles in China and let Translators work out a plan with the Authors to translate and compensate the novels in peace. It sucked whenever a good series got axed because Qidian started throwing DMCAs and put it on their platform. Bonus shit points for the decreased quality in order to churn out chapters and milk SS from readers.
I think it will. I read an article that chinese government target big companies (technology companies) that don't innovate will get killed. Tencent doesn't really innovate. Anyway, I think big tech in the us should get antitrust too. The article that I read title "Why is China Smashing its tech Industry?" by Noah Smith
Now a day i'm reading in webnovel for fanfiction only i dunno compare to other fanfiction site it much better ( for guity pleasure sake ) but some is really great one and make me quite addicting some author i even doubt that he/she has some mind reading ability since all of the stuff happen to those fanfiction it was like what i want to happen in original novel and that why i can't stop lol only fanfiction tho not the original one that lock chapter for $$ i skip all of that
For this one its already 6 years too late. Two biggest novel ocmpany in China, Tencent Literature and Shanda Cloudary merged into Yuewen Group. Qidian is one of their subsidiaries (with several other like jjwxc and other). They have more than 50% market share already.
I still hold a grudge against it for posting too much on the front page. Plus all the drama they kicked up on here back in the day.
It all depends on if the Company Leadership is in the Communist Party or has a good relationship with the Party. In China, this is practically the alfa and omega of all corporations. If you get into the bad graces of the Party than no matter how rich you are, you will still be brought down and you money won't save you. Or rather they don't like those who they cannot control directly. Their weird form of Social Capitalsm is built on premise that the government had either direct or indirect reach and control over every company there. Though here and there, some became too big and try to wrestle out of the control of Party, but often the owner or CEO goes missing for couple of weeks and then returns in red colors and honorary members of the Party.
I have personally nothing against Qidian, but in the long run, monopolies bring over stagnation and then degradation of their services. It could already be seen in Webnovel, as some English translations are totally trash.
That's exactly the problem. Unfortunately, it's way too late for the series which have bad transitions. There are no reasons for them to improve even if people complain. They can either suck it up or not read.
The crackdown has nothing to do with this, it's more allocation of resource (capital) the chinese government want innovative company more (Huawei, DJI, BYD) not Tencent ( that doesn't really innovate anything)
