As you know stories come and go, se a good as others are bad. But what is important is that some are finished while others are abandoned. This is a common dilema as a reader, specially when you find that perfect story that fits your expectations or has all the tags you want in a story but check the last update and see it had been years. Ongoing stories count as finished since they Might be finished one day.
I will, however, read it with the hopes that by the time I catch up it'll have started continuing again and I won't have to suffer... false hopes ftw~~
I have more than a hundred novels in my "waiting for updates" list tho I still read dropped novels if they are good, maybe someone will pick up
the importance is on being able to continue dreaming. ID is dropped because of reasons, but I wish I could read all the chapters released if only so I can write a tribute to it.
Yes, on the hopes that it would've gotten boring before or by the time the author decided to discontinue it. It's just that those 3000ish Chinese novels are so hideously long , that even if the author is going, I don't have the time to waste with them.
I read Frizzy's Magnetic Attraction several times despite knowing it had been dropped and never finished. It was just that good.
Seen a few that have been in ‘eternal hiatus’ like one of my favorites (below). Yuusha Yori Saikyouna Kuro Kishi Link: https://www.novelupdates.com/series/yuusha-yori-saikyouna-kuro-kishi/
8/10 times no, normally when an author drop it, it won't be continued, different from when author goes into hiatus. So getting interested in something to then see it stop is irritating, so it is better to not get involved in those unfinished stories, because in stories, the end is important. Stories need to have a beginning, a plot (rising action, climax, falling action) and the ending. so almost all of those stories die before reaching the middle part (rising action, climax, falling action) so what are you reading then? Normally you would find yourself trapped, thinking about how it would have been if something or the other happened, or in extreme cases, you will find yourself wanting to stop reading at all. (had a acquaintance that disappeared for a few months). So in my opinion is not worth the time reading a story that the author has dropped/discontinued.
I've been reading webcomics, webnovel and translations online for nearly 20 years now. I've gotten used to things going on hiatus, being dropped, or abruptly ending. So if I find a story I'm enjoying, and know it's going to end, I'll read up to the best breaking point and call it a somewhat disappointing ending. If there isn't one, well I've been an avid reader the majority of my life and can figure out an ending that suits my tastes if it bothers me xD
My answer is no. A discontinued story is forever unfinished and will forever remain a stubborn memory you’ll recall. You’ll be scrolling through NU, and than thinking “if only that story was continued” forever. It’ll become a sad memory for you and will follow you forever, especially so if it’s a good novel. It’s like forever seeing hope, but never being able to reach it. That is nothing but a curse and helpless stain. It is better to save yourself from the eventual suffering of eternity for just a few moments of bliss.
Mx0 (manga) is still often being recommended even though it was axed long ago. same goes for High School of the Dead (which the author passed away). and sadly now, Rain. though it still remains to be seen whether it will somehow get concluded. Tales of Demons and Gods is as good as discontinued now. the author releasing a chapter a month is just an excuse to get the cash cow going as long as possible. Grasping Evil, though the chapters are 2-3 times longer than most xianxia, still averaged about a chapter/month if we divided back that long chapter. Miracle Throne is still active being translated despite being a discontinued novel, and more than 6K people have it on their reading list, if we go by its page stats on NU Anego , why did you have to remind me of ID
oops? I am still really P-ed about how they cut Mx0 so damn short!! it was finally reaching the good part of the story where the MC wasn't just faking shit... that and he was getting creative with the use of the magic null too... but honestly there was only ever so much he could do with it I guess :S
uh... I have that one on my reading list... stopped reading it at the +/-200 chapter... no point in keep reading something that the author doesn't even bother to finish, but I keep it on list to know that, It was something I was reading. something like for history purpose?
Alive: The Final Evolution managed to escape that fate as the author wrote the final chapters on his deathbed. even leaves a ton of unanswered questions of deep nature on life and death.
