Toradora for romance.
Aldnoah Zero for epic action. (2nd season was shit, but the fights were still awesome).
No Game No Life for artistic value (pretty pretty shiny shiny)
Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works (TV) for graphical animation.

Even if my taste change, how my views change, and even my list of animes longer.

Its not my first anime but...

Hayate the combat butler. The anime that brought me here. It will always be my best anime for me...

 

Shirobako - 2 cour
Baccano - 1 cour

I split my favorites by cours so that I could have more personal favorites
Typically I find myself adding inner commentary to everything I watch. Usually that means the anime is sub-par at that point or I just can't get engaged enough to prevent it despite me finding it interesting. There are a lot of anime in which I felt really immersed/engaged but Baccano and Shirobako are the only ones I've been completely immersed/engaged in. FMA:B is the only other anime I can say is a favorite (>2 cours and it was pretty close to being perfect, my opinion of course)

Anyway, those are the only two that I've been immersed in completely easily making them my favorites. Not really a judgement on plot or characters, just how much I enjoyed it. Judging on what I thought was good for plot or characters would get different results. FMA:B would retain its spot as I haven't watched a lot of long anime, im saving those for later.
(Death Note could have been a favorite if not for the last cour. I couldn't enjoy those episodes because I kept comparing the them to the first half (rather, the first 2/3).)

civilization blaster - because it made me realise that there can be good anime without action as a focus.

 

Zero No Tsukaima for the Romance and the fact that I can easily identify myself into the MC, that made me travelled with him and live this adventure with him ! :3
And.. CODE GEASS because it's a so ***king badass story, really really well made, with interestings characters, and an end that let you the free to think what you want to believe ! :3

Code geass for the same reasons as my predecessor.

 

Sands of destruction unfortunately the ending was a little rushed in my opinion but it's still my favorite for reasons I cannot fathom

 

action = Hunter x Hunter 2011 / FMA-B / Fate Zero (F S/N is not as good imo). (1st/2nd/3rd)
music = Shigatsu wa kimi no uso
sport = haikyuu!
horror = Shiki
Slice of life = mushishi

 

Fate/Zero because of the dark and brooding atmosphere, the deep narrative, the fluid and well-choreographed action sequences, the amazing OST, the well-written dialogues, the unique personalities of the characters, and because I just like the Fate series so much.

 

LUCKY STAR!

Why? Because Konata is a meme overlord and the entire story is just... shitz and gigglez.

Horror: Bloody Maiden (sorry, it's not an anime Guess my favourite horror is Higurashi then)

Code Geass and Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge

Code Geass: Clearly my favorite Anime in action, mecha etc
Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge: Its just so funny and i like the art too

 

Kochikame because it's really funny, i can't stop laughing each time I watch it, we follow the daily life of a unlucky policeman. Moreover i love really so much the different heroines in this anime, really well developed. The chara design seems old but it gives a different kind of charms, it fully exploit our character's personalities to give us a pleasant time to watch it. Moreover the anime/manga adapts with current era (examples: from the oldest mobile to the current smartphone, old machine which are changed with newest machine.. step by step, the town gradually change to fit the current era), there have even a special character who appears only one time every 4 years during Olympic games (really four years! It's only possible because the manga is still ongoing after 37 years, almost 200 volumes).
But above all the anime/manga makes me "doki doki" (no lies, my heart beats really quickly when i watched the anime), i'm so exciting each time i watch/read it, oh god i just can't explain it with words.

 

Ghost in the Shell, because Motoko is sexy as hell (my teen crush )

 

School Rumble, because it has a hilarious cast of characters, likable male protagonist and my most favorite blonde twin tailed heroine voiced by Horie Yui.

 

Nostalgia glasses answer is Digimon but my favorite anime not from my childhood is probably Fate/Zero.
