Your taste in novels

Books are so yummy.
They're sweet while some are bitter.
Some tastes like just air.

I'm wondering what kind of novels do people read.
Theme or genre.

What is your taste in novels?
What is your distaste in novels(things that makes you drop a novel)?
What are some of your favorite novel\s(not limited to NU)?

I like comedy and fantasy elements. I also like anti-hero protagonists, self-sacrificial protagonist, smart protagonists, OP protagonist. World building and character building. I also like it more when the author torture's MC(No ntr or stuffs like that).

I hate:
Novels full of fluff. I generally stay away from cultivation novels. I hate harem, because women in harem stories feels like fluff. (Except Mushoku Tensei type of harem). I generally stay away from MMORPGs because they don't feel real enough. I also drop most slice of life novels because i don't feel like reading them after a lot of chapters

To answer OP question: i like netori (mind that is not netorare) and i like revenge story. I especially like story where MC stole heroine from a hero or some sort, it felt good to see someone from position of authority fall down.

 

My 'taste' depends on my mood.

Why must I limit myself to one, when I can get 'em all~?

Ofc, shit is still shit.
But sometimes, you just have to read about an arrogant young master being slapped or some cat lazing around in mid-summer heat.

Reading is for relaxation purposes and escapism fantasy. If it makes me feel relaxed or satisfied to read about an OP MC slapping Gods around the multiverse, then I'll read it. If a dense girl is going around making a harem unintentionally and it makes me laugh, then I'll read it.

'Taste' doesn't matter. End result does.

 

I read any novel apart from gender bender and bl. It depends on the synopsis. If it grabs my attention then I'll read it.

If we're talking about books then I like horror, fantasy or sci fi~

I'm just so damn bored I want to read something but I don't feel like reading.

 

Likes:
Gritty action with emphasis on techniques and strategy
Going from weak to strong (in a believable way)
Differing views on events from different characters
Exotic technologies and cultures
Detailed world building

Dislikes:
Pushing through with brute force and BS last-minute power ups
Characters that don't change even after a whole arc dedicated to their development
Characters that are way too idealistic/sympathetic
Cocky MCs not getting humiliated down the line

I can't stand novel where the narrator is telling the future events, like saying "at that time MC didn't know yet that his action would greatly change the future." Or "at that time he didn't know his saying become famous". Something like that.

 

I like heartwarming story, not empty fluff, but heartwarming. And epic battle. I dislike cultivation novel, they just get stronger and stronger for no reason.

So, I like heartwarming epic battle. Example is Invisible Dragon.

 

Of course, who doesn't like invisible dragon? It's a legendary timeless classic masterpiece...

 

I like novels where there is
' foreshadowing' and the side character Have good character building and more role and pov's.
After reading so many action novel I am slowly transiting Towards school life rom-com genre with some thriller like Durarara, gamers, ero manga sensei andKami-sama no Memochou.
I also like novels with 18 th century European settings like allison, gosick and rakuin no monshou.

No specific tastes, but a few things I find distasteful:
Characters that don't grow, with a few exceptions.
Repetitive plots, there's a fine line that can be walked here.
Continuous info dumps, some author's really need to learn how to introuduce things in a gradual or intriguing manner..

I tend to enjoy it when genres are mixed; action, adventure, romance, comedy, slice of life, etc blend it all well together and you have a masterpiece~

 

It seems I have rather good taste but welp.

Anything that doesn't look too boring to me is a good novel I guess?
But the good ones, I'll keep them hidden, huehue

 

my taste depends on my mood ....sometimes its bl others its pure shonen ...i never say no to a sports manga

There are time where i feel dark and go for tragedy (but its really really rare)

Anyway i usually read whatever sounds good

 

i like most of anything but to be more specific depending on my mood comedy,slice of life and/or romance or historical novels(although fantasy isnt that but either)with a lot of intrigue politics and strategy.What i pay more attention into is the characters and as for them i like the types who no matter if they are good or bad accept their wrongdoings(even if they dont do anything to fix them) without constantly trying to use stupid excuses to make them see as right,arent self righteus or hypocrites and who suffer the consiquences of said good or bad actions and not just get away with things for no reason whatsoever

 

I like overpowered mc that destroy everything without abstaining themselves

my mood depends on my taste at the respective moment , I usually like cold , evil or shameless mc

 

Negative:

• Hypocrite author. Describes Mc as something while mc does another thing entirely.
• Any yaoi/gay related stuff. Instant block. No questions asked.
• Wimpy Mc, or stuff designed for machoistic readers.
• Overboard fillers. Bad editing, etc etc

Positive:

• Just about anything other than above.
• Harem is a plus.
• Overpowered mc and structured plot is a plus. Foreshadowing and clues is a plus.
• Good English and decent editing is a plus.
• Everything other than the negatives can end up being a plus.

You have to know that how long novels go, there will be parts that you will alway end up dissatisfied with. But generally you still like them(novels) very much.

Listing some of my favourites would do those titles no justice, which I like equally but won't be able to list due to forgetting their names. But at this point, it should be easy for you to quote a title that I like, or would like.

 

I don't think I can put myself in a box where I just straight up just like only one-few things. I believe everything can be enjoyable depending on your mood. For example, I might need something funny to read. But after completing that novel I might be tired of more comedy and look into something more dramatic. Or reading about a mc so good and thoughtful can also get very tiring. That's when I'll probably look into a book that has a more devious in a bad sense-evil MC.
