    Btw, I manage to do a manual script edit outside of Twine as interim edit to the problem highlighted. Thanks for the notification.

    I'm just going to keep this Dark Souls-esque game on hold till it is barely passable as a game, okay? I don't want to lose any save data, at all.

    Yup, I think it would take a while before I could a reach a point where things are stable enough to have consistent save file across version.

    No, I haven't dropped it and not planning to. It is just that Twine (game engine/developer tool that I am using) has some constraints that I couldn't overcome with my limited JavaScript ability. Rather than working around it, my muse died down, really hard. Like I could write nothing after staring at the PC for weeks. I tried re-writing from the beginning but that doesn't help. TT_TT

    TLDR - stuck technically with game engine, muse died, learning lower level architecture in the hopes of overcoming engine limitation, still far away from an update because now I am working without an engine

    If you are interested on some more details, just to share, especially if there is somebody else who are interested to do something similar.

    Preface: Twine has a very good use case and nice built in feature
    • Created specifically for interactive fiction - so, a lot of features built in for text rpg
    • Sugarcube story engine - with save and load features built in
    • Built in passage relationship map
    However, I quickly encounter some limitations of Twine:
    • User view-able source (one can view the source to see the variables/options/conditions spoiler abound)
    • Constraints on dynamic object model - not sure about the exact term, but the JavaScript object in Twine are bound locally and only the copies are shared across passages/chapters
    • Big filesize - not a problem yet, but I could see it grows, relatively high user facing filesize download in one go for a relatively simple text game
    • Difficult to keep track of changes and revision - I think this is the biggest factor, as story and path get bigger, the changes are hard to track across multiple passages and path, especially as I opt to try a few things around, difficult to keep different version running together

    I couldn't do anything on the muse, so, I decided to tackle the constraints that was blocking my intended feature (which might have been the devil killing my muse), by learning an entirely new architecture. You see, how everything develops in tangent....

    As things escalate further and further away from the story write up, I am kinda scared and regretful to write a post here. Since the progress keeps getting further and further away...

    I don't have a good news yet. I took an online course covering some JavaScript and Node.js (another JavaScript platform). I also learn Git version control to track changes and versioning. I have some framework in my mind and getting things running. I do hope I can mature this things further and start to have the basic features, but things are pretty slow since it is too low level, i.e. no dedicated game engine.

    Wish me luck in the coming months. I hope I can get the programming part sorted soon and my muse in writing improve.
    If you happen to have some ideas on the node.js text rpg, do let me know a good npm package...
