So I came across a video on youtube where they open booster packs of yugioh & pokemon cards. And apparently they are now very collectible and valuable. SO I did what any person would do and dug up my old card collections.

What do I find? A whole lot of junk, for sure, but more gems than I had anticipated! And most of them were ruined gems...

F.e.: I have a 1st edition Blue-Eyes White Dragon SKE-001. That card is worth some money, in mint condition. But, since it was one of my favourite cards, I played with it alot, so the corners are bent and the back has some folds.

Or my Salamence EX, which was worth around 40-50$? Etc, etc.

The regret part is this: If I hadn't played with them as much as I did, I could be rich now!

Does anyone else have similar experiences? Let me know, because the quarentine has me going me for some nostalgic Trading Cards memories.

The only card i had was the Ancient Mew one that they handed out if you went to see the pokemon movie at the time. Lost it as a moved to a new home. Not sure of the worth or if it even counts as a first print if Europe wasn't the first place to get the movie in the cinemas either.

I had a few rare pokemon cards, I didn't play with them that much (I did play but maybe once or twice a week for a few months)

My regret is that I once took a binder of them and didn't realize they were upside down! So I lost a few rare cards...

Yugioh I didn't really get into buying cards, I simply used people's junk decks to beat their main decks and played online back in the day.

I also have magic the gathering cards but those are worn down.

But hey, I don't think any of them are worth selling. Not because they aren't worth a decent amount of money, but simply because their sentimental value to me is worth more.

I don't have a Blue Eyes, but I do have a first edition Kuriboh and Mystical Elf, as well as a couple others, like Mammoth Graveyard and Celtic Guardian. My Dark Magician is second edition...so close. They are in fairly good condition, with the edges maybe a little worn from shuffling. I never bent my cards as a kid because I bought them with my own money. Cosmic Queen did end up in the laundry, though.

I had a Digimon card (one of the older editions, before they knew what they were doing with the gameplay) that was Kari Kamiya herself, pyjama version. Since she was my favorite character, I wanted to display it, so I taped it to my clarinet case. Of course, it fell off one day. I cried when I realized. I looked it up recently, though, and it seems I can buy one online for maybe around $6.

Trading cards always rise in value, ALWAYS. That's why people put them in plastic coating the moment they got them

yeah they were big in my childhood and i spent basically all my money on them, my biggest regret is alot of my cards were fake though because i bought them from markets at a cheap rate $2 a pack instead of $6-7, then again i was crafty, i learned, learned to much i could easily tell apart fakes by the colours on the back of pokemon, and the foil holo corner on the yugioh and dammit all if i didnt screw people over in trades , seriously though im amazed the government didnt label it as gambling or something i spent alot of money on them when i was little, oh and my favourite card i got was this one, it blew my mind when i got it

Don't know about that but if its limited it appreciates in value over time unless they have a reissue but the original still has better value

I once drew a Gengar out of a booster. I think I hid it in my shoes when it was raining, or it just dropped out of my pocket, but I lost it anyway and still today it's a mystery to me how I lost it

I think my biggest card game regret is not buying some Magic cards to make a deck I wanted, and instead buying some PS2 games.

Like, sure, the games were fun, but like... The deck was worth around 100$ or so IIRC.

Well... One of the cards in the deck is now worth 70$, and I would have 4 of it. Also, I was going to use a relatively rare land for the deck, and each of them was worth around 1$ (They're usually worth 0.10$ or less)... Well, they're worth 7$ now, and I'd have 24 of them.

So... With those 28/60 cards alone, I'd get a profit of 348$ worth of cardboard... Even if I sold it for half its value, that's still 174$, which is almost as much as I earn in a whole month working... T.T

Not to mention the rest of the deck that also got more expensive since then... orz

I really wish I had invested in those cards back then.

Yeah, pretty much every Trading card Game cards from 10+ years ago have only increased in value. Magic, Pokemon and Yugioh, these fun games are now a money maker if you only had the old cards in good condition.

Did some more digging and found another Blue Eyes. I put a sticker on the back, for some reason, the corners are WORN and I suspect that some of the indents are teeth marks... That same card, but as a 1st edition and in mint condition with a PSA 10 grading, is currently being auctioned on ebay for over 2.400,- $. Damned if that shit isn't crazy.

Yeah, but isn't that just the way with things? When you're a kid you get lucky sometimes, but being a kid you do stuff with it as a kid should.
The bigger surprise is that a lot of people still have their cards, since a good few people threw them with the garbage during a spring cleaning or when moving house.

Aye, can't be helped that we weren't aware as children that our toys would later on become collector items worth hundreds or thousands of dollars! xD

At least we had fun with them as children~

I guess Duel Masters were not as big of a thing for you guys? It was not even mentioned at all in this thread.

I still have decks for Pokemon and Duel Masters. I sold my YuGiOh decks a while back when a friend approached me for my cards. It's a shame you didn't immediately buy the plastic card protectors for the rare cards. I remember buying them together with the packs since the shop owner put them on offer together.

Card protectors are a lesson I learned too late haha. I always carried my cards around in a small metal box, meaning the cards would rattle around in there with my every step.

I just bought some yugioh cards, a nostalgia box and some of the newest boosters, to play around with. This time I ordered card sleeves along with them! Who knows, maybe those'll be valuable in ten years as well? haha

thats why you just play online with virtual cards and keep the real one as collection
accidents do happen though, like when your mom removing your precious porn collection and adding some cards she found
    then burn everything clean :blob_teary:
