Just read chapter 339 and saw how the author tried to justify yang chens tempering and it was real funny. The author already wrote himself into a hole when he made yang chen in his previous life a golden immortal who battled through untold life and death scenarios being constantly on the run. Any tempering before reaching golden immortal is just made redundant and pointlessly puts himself in danger for no reason, the only viable reason the author introduced was to take the heat of his sect but tempering? bullshit lol Source: https://xianxianovel.wordpress.com/2019/04/23/zhanxian-chapter-339-2-pressure/
Tempering must be constant. Anyone can be lazy and slip into bad habits. His edge is dulled, so to speak.
Zhanxian authors can't write an actual story? 300 chapters of bullshit = good story! WHOA WHOA SHOCKERS
Still despite the hole it is one of the few novels that make you feel the MCs cultivation he grows slowly and takes his time unlike many other MCs who just seem to rise like a rocket( also on another side note you have to consider his background he was a fire golden immortal he doesn't have much experience with other elements also ln a way that's a foolish sentiment without experience fighting with his new elements how is he going to be able to fight other golden immortals once he reaches that level)
It isn't really explained well, but -tempering- isn't just about experience. Tempering is also the progress in coming to understand yourself and the world around you. That understanding is what allows a cultivator to break through to the next level, establishing a connection to the heavens and the earth. Naturally the MC here doesn't really require that, because of his past-lifes' experiences. But that's just in regard to his cultivation. He's far less experienced in personal relationships and dealing with administration of the sect and in matters of love. The MC is not perfect, and he knows better than to rush into things if he can help it. That and he's coming to realize that that he's become too lax.
I read the chapter more as a random thought the MC was having than an author's explanation. It was a filler chapter, after all. In any event, it was still relevant. The MC does benefit from having "pressure" from those in power of the big sects coming after him. He gets their money and possessions, is exposed to schemes, and grows in influence. His tempering does provide a growth incentive and reason for him to stay focused. You couldn't expect a veteran MMA fighter to still be in top shape after convalescing after an injury or vacation, right? The MC can't rest on his laurels. That was the entire message of the chapter.
ahh what i dislike about this novel is simply two things... one - the author forgot maybe like 2-3(maybe more?) times about huuugeee plot lines he has set up in advance, and what have been found out as a established fact, but when it happens for real, they are downgraded in worth from what have been told or turned into something unknown to the reader, because they do not match up... second part is all the daaamn treasure are redundant, they find no place in the novel when in fact he was droooooling over it.. but i will mention one more is the harem, its great when it's their own arcs, full of colors and personality, but as many novels..... they become nothing more then white papir after that
I'd like to believe that but the problem is the author didn't make tempering consistent up till this point in the novel, he only threw it in at this point because the novel was lacking in action and probably losing readers as a result, thus he needed a reason to justify some thrown in upcoming dangers to build interest again.
