“It’s only a short distance from town, after all,” she said as she asked to sit on the steps at the back of the armored carriage.

She did finally take off her dried herbal skirt and had them hang it on the side of the iron carriage.

“Yeh, I’ll just join you, then,” said Lynx as swung himself up next to Mariella. Though the steps were wide, when two people sat on them, it was a tight squeeze.

Maybe it’s just me but I think I’ve been surrounded.

Irritation was the furthest thing from her mind when Lynx nonchalantly closed the distance between them. His approach was smooth as his close proximity failed to draw her ire.

The iron carriage continued its journey along the road. It was not very fast but the carriage vigorously swayed to and fro as it creaked along the path. She supposed it might make her butt-cheeks hurt if the trip were long. If the sway was this bad when they were going slow, how bad would it be if they were to raise their speed? She had a feeling that she’d go tumbling off the steps, dizzy from all the motion.

When she discussed her thoughts with Lynx, he explained his reasoning on why it should be safe.

It would be unlikely for them to encounter any monsters as they were so close to the city. Plus, the sun was still high in the sky. All of which was why they could proceed so leisurely. The forest wolves they had been fighting earlier were not from this area but had chased them from another place far away. He explained that they would often chase the wolves away when they reached this area so the wolves would not follow them into the city.

“So don’t worry about it. I’m more interested in finding out where you live, Mariella.”

“Oh, I used to live in the forest but it became a bit unlivable, you could say….”

As Mariella clumsily parried Lynx’s prying questions, she kept an eye on the surroundings. They should be reaching the garrison city pretty soon.

Mariella began to fidget as they approached the garrison city. Seeing her anxiety, Lynx reassured her.

“Don’t worry! It’s still broad daylight. Zombies and wraiths won’t even appear. Not that knowing the truth makes it any more comfortable passing through here. Not a place you can get used to, I guess.”

The carriage arrived where the garrison city…used to be.

Her assumption had been correct. From the way they were calling it a ‘Dungeon City”.

Even though from her point of view, it was only yesterday that the stampede had occurred.

All the building in the garrison city as they competed for a spot.

All the stores, overflowing with their various goods.

All the roadside stalls with their beaconing scents, tempting the hungry.

All the commotions caused by the boisterous adventurers.

She could remember it all.

Cheeks sounded cuter than a plain one without it....no? Sleepy thinks. New allergy meds can do weird stuff to your thinking.
