Well, truth be told. I've heard the name Nameless before, it would be best just to use it as main fake name, and have another real name for him.

For example the novel I read, the character's name was Nameless which he presented to everyone, but he had a real name which he only revealed after a long while to his younger brother which he hasn't seen for a long time.

So, use Nameless. And create another name with a story to it, either sad past or something like that..

I don't think Nameless will work for a name. It could be me, but there should be no one who will call a kid like that. There are quite a lot of other possibilities to refer to him in conversation after all.

Think 'you/him', '(the) boy' and/or 'man' etc.

Besides, he's probably hardly the only orphan around, so it shouldn't be a unique case, right?

If you must absolutely have him as 'Nameless' it might be better to have it as a last name, or title instead.

(Sorry if this sounds a bit tactless, that's not my intention, but I'm both rather blunt by nature, as well as sleep deprived. These two cents are the result...)

 

Here's the backstory. Pretty much our MC is a reincarnated soul from Earth with only some of his vague memories intact(he doesn't remember his name and only has like glimpses into his memories, nothing that would help him in figuring his identity, just short experiences and modern knowledge). He's a orphan and gets his name from the orphanage kids who bullied him for not even having a name since even the caretakers there didn't give him a proper name. What makes him different in this world is that due to being from Earth, he has a personality and understanding of human achievement, innovation, perseverance, struggle, curiosity, etc. The world he lives in is a place where the people are nothing but playthings for the Gods. Technological progress and knowledge is suppressed and censored, religion is as even more truth as science is here on Earth. Literally the Church is the ultimate power. One example of their control is the existence of dungeons that provide food and resources. Literally everything is provided by the dungeon. Agriculture, crafting, alchemy, etc. don't even really exist(only minimally and manmade goods like a blacksmithed sword is worse and considered a fake/counterfeit compared to dungeon loot). Our MC, understanding these Truths and strives to break the world from the control of the Gods and reclaim the freedom of all living beings. A battle erupts between the Gods to claim the Throne of One True God (Imagine the world of No Game No Life: Zero). After essentially winning and claiming the throne. He becomes the God of Godslayers but the world is in ruins after the war. He essentially has to rebuild the world from it's ashes at the cost of his literal existence fading turning his soul into a ghost none can fully see(except a blind girl he eventually adopts as his daughter.) During those times of rebuilding the world, he becomes like a whisper or legend that helps in the regrowth and progression of humanity. He becomes like a ghost/spirit in legends known as the Lonely God or Wanderer. That's the backstory so far.

Tom, Steve, Jeffrey, Sam, Frank, Drey, Snake, Wind, Cut, Qin, Oscar, Xianda, Zain, Power, Stain, Finn, Hat, Numb, Vince, Gut, Lincoln, Indra, Yang, Eclair, Undy, Amber, Boom, etc. Add -less to the end of the name and see if it makes sense.

Then can anyone think of a good name with -less at the end like Speechless, Heartless, Sunless, Soulless, Hopeless, Lifeless, Lawless, Mindless etc.
