Its a must for me. It doesn't have to be a Harem and immediately its a sex fest but preferably Slow. Not the type of slow romance development where it takes hundreds of chapters just for the romance to take the first step.
Really weird how a good chunk of my interest just dies if I found out there's no romance development whatsoever or just plain slow.

Having some good romance mixed in gives the story an intriguing touch, but it's not a necessity for me.

nothing more boring than an MC that reaches godhood, lives for millions of years and is still single and a virgin :v you know how boring it would be to live that much alone? even pancosmic loner has a chibi angel with him at all times!

Unless the story on it's own is interesting enough even w/o the romance then it is fine. doesn't really bother me if the MC just pursue his thing - forever alone.

To me romance compensates what the novel is usually lacking
If it has alot of plot holes but with a decent interesting romance I would continue it
And I can relate when you lose some interest when you don't find the romance tag( it's a nightmare when there is a harem but no romance; waste of time)
And usually many novels need the romance to add some spice to the mix

It really depends on genre for me. For the novels on this site though, yes, romance is necessary to generate interest. Novels where I won't care for romance that much are horrors, and novels with male protagonist. To me, reading a novel without any men in significant roles, with only women around, is boring. I imagine the opposite is true for most male readers. So I can do without romance if the novel has predominantly, if not only, a male cast of characters. That's fine with me. But having only a female cast will bore me to death and I would hope to see at least one male lead having a romance with one of the female characters (think Sailormoon and similar mahou shoujo anime/manga).

Yes for me but it most time ever ruins the story or makes it great.
i like it more cause it makes the character feel more real like what 14 to 30 year old MC does not want to get it on with Jade Like Beauties.
also it must not be like oh he is MC and we are all jade beauties lets all share him.
it does not need be MC that is the love interest could be his best friend, after all in my life it my mate that seams be the lucky fker.

Well, if there is a romantic interest, then yes, there must be.

If there's no romantic interest from beginning to end (and no romance ofc), that's fine as well

If there's romantic interest and the story ends without them getting together.... i feel very empty

Of course, but I'd rather read a well developed romance with slower progress, than cheap romance where girls get conquered easily by just the MC's cool display and immediately fall in love with each other

Nope. Its like jimmies/sprinkles. Its fine if there is some, as long as it doesn't disrupt the taste of ice cream. Like wang lin and li muwan. Thats enough for me.

It's not an absolute must but I would like to see it in the novels. Though in some novels it's really bad. In them cases I would rather there be no romance over badly written romance~

Yeah having Romance in a novel (can) bring(s) a certain dynamic to the story and gives the Author and the readers situations where the love can uplift the MC or hold him down in many ways. How the people around them react to the romance and how it can bring misunderstandings as well, to name a few possible consequences from (a, the, multiple) romance(s) in the story.

But is it a must for me no, but is preferred given the dynamic it brings.

If it's not harem, and there is a love interest then yeah I'd expect it.

Your poll needs more options though.

Yes for me romance is the perfect side dish for my novels. It's never the main focus for the novels i prefer. Idm if it's a harem or single im open to both.

Yeah, I mean, love itself it's a beautiful thing, even if the novel is drama or an horror story, a good romance in it can give the tale a few more stars. Altough I favore novels with romance, a story without it it's not that hard to swallow if it's good. Sadly there are really few good novels without romance.
