And even if certain authors were to express their personal consent, it's still piracy once they sign the rights over to the publishing company.

Just because we may or may not get along with certain authors who may or may not have said something along the lines of,

"I'll keep it a secret from my publishers, so try not to get caught! Thanks!"

doesn't make us not pirates.

But I don't see the contradiction between 'fan of the author' and 'pirate' here, do you?

No news is good news. I am using a different computer, so I can't find the link, but Qidian should be a combination of more than one novel website and the former owner was interviewed, I will tryy to find the link.
I am hoping to do Daily Releases of novels myself, I am pretty envious of Qidian

Copyright is one thing, but this is another TL group trying to take over the community and then erect a paywall. When the author of Legendary Moonlighth sculptor asked the community to stop TLing? We said ok. When Yenpress said ok this is being copyrighted now, please support by buying the official translation? We said fair enough, but look what QI is doing. No approval from anyone officially related to the novel, just them buying out other TLers and basically saying f u to RWX, how can you call that fair?

 

QI was and is still wrong how they handled WW and took those 20 novels after being unfair to Ren from WW. I get that point of yours but what do you mean by

QI owns the rights to the translation rights in all language of the novels as the publishers iirc.
edit: Do you mean WW novels they had no permissions to those translations?
edit 2: cause then yea I agree with you on that. Dunno the full details but that seems shitty of QI.

QI do NOT have permission to just blatently copy n paste the work that WW TLers did and say it's theirs.

 

yea I get that just the way you wrote it made it sound like you felt QI had no rights in this case. They only have the rights to do their own official translations of novels. WW is safe on those 20 novels. QI was shitty to take those 20 novels everything else QI on WW though is liable to DMCA. QI cannot Copy n Paste any of those translations though. Since its fan translations and the translators usually want it to stay free to not get in trouble. QI is supposed to start from scratch if they really want to start translation of those novels.

I guess I just got confused on this part of your post. Cause I think you meant QI instead of another TL group. Saying QI took those 20 novel translations. QI is a publisher though not TL group. which threw me off a bit.
