Aren't the chapters focused on creating Japanese food equivalent to filler? I can't have been the only one to have noticed that right...

They are, but common sense should still apply.

If we are being serious here, then it would be very unlikely to be able to replicate Japanese food in another world. These are one of the moments when the author just expects you to accept it (plot holes), I'm not sure how much of these chapters would even make it into the light novel version anyways. This situation is very similar to series in which the MC is able to create advanced technology from their former world, it's implausible because there are steps that must come beforehand, such as key materials, proper tools, refining methods and knowledge which a 15 to 18 year old don't have. Just learn to accept it for what's it's worth, if you want to enjoy it. A lot of authors like to do away with common sense, so I feel your pain.

Curry is still ok. There's this shoujo novel where no one in a semi advanced world know how to make pancakes....

Well... kids in Japan are normally taught how to cook especially curry it's simple and have been refined to suit their Japanese palate and it's also a common yet popular dish in Japanese culture ever since it was introduced. :cookie:

You aren't supposed to get mad at it, but to laugh at the sheer nonsense of such filler scenarios. Much like katana-wanking and chuuni magic spell names, not even the Japanese take them seriously. Chill out.

Also, nobody forces you read chapters like that. Even if you skip them, given how generic the stories are, you won't miss much anyway (assuming you're reading a generic power fantasy isekai and not the dedicated cooking novel kind).

That is one of the reasons I stop reading isekai Novel that is praising Japanese food as high a clouds.

No, the Japanese do take them seriously, and yes, I do enjoy these. But, I made this rant because I was annoyed at how unrealistic it was, even in a fictional world.

If it's the same book I'm thinking of, it's still pretty darned good besides that silliness.

I'm with you. I honestly wouldn't mind if these books were talking about proper food porn like in Kenjitsu or Transmigrator Meets Reincarnator, but it's usually talking about basic-ass foods as written by someone with a child's palate. They should be remaking foods from all over the world or fancy pastries or other kinds of gourmet cuisine to make things interesting. And no, curry doesn't count because that's something that Japanese children learn.

Heck, the plants themselves are probably magical monsters and can defend themselves viciously. MC dies a horrible death trying to find spices for curry.
