Never had that problem despite regularly reading on batoto. The fix is easy though: unblock batoto, they don't even have any intrusive ads afaik.
So... Why should anyone care if ad block plus is controlled by a corporation? They can sell my data to a big corporation? Again, why should I care? What will this corporation do with it? Sell my CCS avis to other companies? Being fair, I can understand you recommending Ublock because it is lighter, but I have been using Ad Block Plus since ever and I never had any problems with it, and I don't see any problems with a corporation owning it, I just don't think that your reasoning behind people not using Ad Block Plus makes sense, if the reasoning in your OP had any of those things in it: Then I'd think it's a valid reasoning. So... I think it makes sense for you to recommend Ublock instead of Ad Block Plus, but I think the reasoning you used on the OP is pretty stupid... >.>
