I started Dota 2 back in December of last year and played till beginning of March. I enjoyed the strategy aspects as I'd never played a MOBA before but the community is toxic as hell and the learning curve was hectic (in my case as there were constant updates and patches coming out at the time) I was lucky enough to meet a few random experts that took time to explain and help me learn stuff and I was proficient but not great near 30 hrs into gameplay. I would have switched to LoL but couldn't get the thing to download right so I gave up.
You can try LoL. Its pretty good..in the past i also played HON..i dont play dota 2 cuz i already played WC3.
Both Dota 2 and LOL have a very toxic community, but in terms of being beginner friendly... I'd say try LOL first because Dota 2 is more tailored for people have the time to practice 1 hero for 1000+ hours to master it (but is still in a losing streak) because of the complexity of the game mechanics and meta; beginners might be feeling more pressured and frustrated rather than having a fun time. After crawling through hell though, you'll find your hard work, practice and dedication to be rather satisfying and rewarding if you actually manage to become a great player and win games... or maybe you have a tendency towards masochism if you're still playing in a losing streak after 1000+ games. While LOL is more beginner friendly and it is great for casual players who can have fun playing the game while not knowing what is actually happening, but it can become very competitive too. I rather like Dota 2 more and I haven't played much LOL either, but I suppose there is a reason why LOL rivals that of Dota 2. TL;DR -Both LOL and Dota 2 have a toxic community -I recommend LOL cuz it is more beginner friendly -Dota 2 is for people who are masochist (jk)
Whether it's LoL or Dota you won't last long if you play alone.. It's good to have friends to play with. I personally like LoL more it's fun and easy, you could also play competitively but wait until you're higher ranked (Lots of stupid people, true for both games) or have your own team to play with. Dota is more complex and rewarding if you execute a nice play and i love the skin collecting. It also punish you hard if you play badly, unlike LoL mostly you could get back if you just don't get killed often. Most of my friends play Dota so i only play with them, i never played solo AGAIN. Last time I played alone i almost broke my computer, Toxic and dumb people and I'm almost 4k mmr, people there can kill you verbally if you are not prepared or have a high mental fortitude. So yah. Depends what you really prefer.
Well, i want to say this... Dota2 is a good game but not for pussies who cries after a few flaming words...
Dota 2 is has complex mechanics combined with toxic community but if u want hardcore and challenging MOBA the i suggest Dota 2 anyway i have many account to play liker their reaction when low level user can get double rampage >_<
