Ask and ye shall recieve Preface: The arc from Ch. 31 is titled "Their former days", where Qin Zhiai reminisces about the past. The following is the same story told from Gu Yusheng's perspective. Spoiler: Yet to meet The first time Gu Yusheng heard the name "Qin Zhiai" was from Wu Hao's seatmate. At that time, Wu Hao was chasing Xu Wennuan. Every day during prep period, Wu Hao would chatter and scheme with his seatmate about how to win over Wennuan's heart. That day, their voices were especially loud and woke Gu Yusheng, who was napping at his seat. Without even lifting his head, Yusheng grabbed a notebook and threw it at the back of their heads. Being woken, Yusheng no longer felt sleepy, so he just lay there listening. While chatting, Wu Hao started to egg on his seatmate to also get a girlfriend, "Nuannuan's good friend is really pretty. You wanna to chase her and give it a go?" Wu Hao accidentally bumped his chair into Yusheng's desk, causing Yusheng to glance up at Wu Hao. Gu Yusheng finished drinking and threw the empty water bottle in the trash. He picked up his backpack and left. The third time Gu Yusheng heard the name "Qin Zhiai", it was during the school's midterm commendation ceremony. She was a first year and he was a third year. Between them were the second years, and their distance could be described as, as far apart as heaven and earth. The headmaster first announced the top ten students in each subject among the third years, then among the second years, and finally among the first years. When the headmaster got to the second years, Yusheng and Wu Hao took a trip to the restroom. Yusheng leaned against the wall and smoked half a cigarette, before returning. When they got back, the headmaster was already done commending the second years, and moved on to the first years. In the first year, students haven't started specializing in certain subjects, so there were only ten total spots. Starting from number 10, the headmaster went backward in order, all the way to number 1, when he said, "Qin Zhiai". Xu Wennuan screamed in excitement. At that time, Wu Hao had successfully chased Wennuan and they were dating. Hearing his girlfriend, he also joined in, as if he was the one who got first place. He proudly told the people around him, "That's my Nuannuan's good friend. She's not only pretty but also a top student. She doesn't just have a pretty face with nothing to show for. She's talented! She's a goddess!" Though Yusheng and Qin Zhiai weren't connected in anyway, repeatedly hearing her name had an effect. Slowly, after hearing that name again, Yusheng would either pay heed, or stop in his tracks, or ponder ... Well in any case, he slowly started to take mind. "The winner of the 400 meter dash among first years is that girl who just entered our school. Spoiler: Ice rink: meeting for the first time It was only at the end of the first semester, after Spring Festival, did he have the chance to meet this so called "Freshman Scholar" and "Most Beautiful Campus Girl" Qin Zhiai. That day, his friends had a get-together at the ice rink. The day before yesterday, he was at the internet cafe playing games and didn't sleep for the whole night. Yesterday, he got back at 10 in the morning and was just about to catch up on sleep, when his father came home. These years, his father either didn't come home, or came back drunk. At first his father was just cursing, then he started throwing things. Eventually Yusheng could hear his mother's sobbing. His father carried deep resentment and cursing his mother wasn't enough. Yusheng's father starting pounding on his door. Before his father quelled his anger, Yusheng knew he wouldn't be able to catch a wink of sleep. So Yusheng thought he might as well just go to Wu Hao's get-together. Yusheng took a shower and headed to the ice rink. While leaving, his father was cursing at his and telling him to halt his steps. Yusheng ignored his father so his father took an ashtray and threw it towards Yusheng's head. It was extremely painful. His crankiness from lack of sleep, only got worse. So when he got to the rink, he found a quiet corner, leaned against the wall, and starting smoking. Everyone could see Yusheng was in a bad mood, so they avoided him and gave him space. Only Wu Hao spoke with him, reason being his girlfriend brought her friend over. Wu Hao said, "Yusheng, this is my wife's seatmate, Qin Zhiai" Yusheng didn't say anything and lit another cigarette. But upon hearing "Qin Zhiai", his fingertips imperceptibly tremored. The flame of the lighter slightly quivered, burning his fingertip. It hurt a little but, it was also enough to remind him that he momentarily lost himself. He lowered his eyes, inhaled, and puffed out a smoke ring. Because of the ripples in his heart, he stood tacitly, until his heart rate settled and he recovered his peaceful disposition. Only after, did he lift his eyes and look at the girl next to Wu Hao.He didn't say anything to her and merely nodded his head, before taking back his line of sight. Once Qin Zhiai was pulled away by Xu Wennuan, Wu Hao took a cigarette from Yusheng's cigarette box, lit the cigarette, and said, "Yusheng, how about it? Don't you think Little Ai is worthy of the title "most beautiful campus girl"? It's really strange. Whether she's worthy of it or not, what does it have to do with him? Yusheng dozed off, not bothering to reply. Wu Hao, seeing Yusheng's mood, didn't bother continuing the conversation. He said, "Yusheng, I'm going to look for my wife" and ran off. Yusheng leaned against the wall, smoking once cigarette after the other and as if the music blasting from the rink didn't exist. His father threw the ashtray incredibly fierce. As it turns out, Qin Zhiai was walking by and he swept a glance at her face. She looked toward his direction, as if she noticed his glance. Their eyes met and his hand trembled, dropping his cigarette. He hastily lowered his eyes and extinguished the cigarette with his foot. He lowered his head, stuck his hands in his pocket, and stood quietly for a while before turning and leaving. Because he didn't know the circumstances at home and didn't want to go back, he headed towards an internet cafe. He reserved a private room for himself, lay on the sofa, covered his head with his jacket, and fell into a deep sleep. When he awoke, it was the middle of the night. He turned on the computer and logged into the game. He didn't know what was wrong. Unexpectedly the scene at the ice rink that afternoon emerged. Qin Zhiai's expression... seemed as if it could talk. Her eyes were bright and glistening, as if they could hook a person in. Spoiler: Internet cafe beverage: leaving an impression But the real reason why Yusheng had an impression of Qin Zhiai wasn't because of the time at the ice rink, but another time. That day, his group were at the internet cafe pulling an all-nighter. He was tired after playing games for half a night. He lazily reclined against the back of his seat and with his headphones on, was watching an American television show. Suddenly a girl appeared in front of him. He was wearing headphones and the volume was a bit loud. He couldn't hear what she was saying but then saw her place a bottle of green tea in front of him. What's the meaning of this? He gave her a puzzled look, and saw that she didn't say anything. Following that, he thought of how Xu Wennuan would frequently hand Wu Hao a beverage. After twisting open the cap, Wu Hao would then return the beverage. Yusheng thought this girl's action's also had this meaning, so he effortlessly twisted open the cap, and shoved the beverage back in the girl's hands. Then, he silently chuckled and thought this girl is so funny. Are they even acquainted? Yet she came to ask him to twist open the cap. She stood there holding the beverage, not leaving. He furrowed his brows, and was a bit confused. The bottle was twisted open. Why hasn't the girl left yet? It couldn't be that she wants him to feed her? What a pity, those word hadn't even been said when a call came. His father came back in the middle of the night and beat his mother, who was now in the emergency room. Spoiler: Wu Hao's birthday party It was only at Wu Hao's birthday, that he really started to pay attention to Qin Zhiai. His group of friends booked a private room at a casino near the school. They ate and drank to their hearts' delight. It was lively and bustling with excitement. She drank half a bottle of wine, and seemed to be livelier than usual. At Wu Hao's birthday party, near the end, she and Xu Wennuan dueted the song"Always looking for someone". After they finished, they noisily looped around the long table, and scrambled towards the exit. When they passed by Yusheng, Xu Wennuan pushed Qin Zhiai a little too hard, and caused Zhiai to trip and tumble toward him. Wennuan reacted quickly, shouting, "Little Ai, you okay?" and with one quick tug, pulled Zhiai from Yusheng's body. Even though the Zhiai was only pressed on his body for a few short seconds, he could clearly feel that her hand came in contact with his dick. At that time, she probably was rushing to go to the restroom and didn't notice who she bumped into, or what part of a guy she touched. She wasn't the least bit embarrassed. She left with Wennuan, laughing and chattering. But as for him, who was left behind, he felt like he had been electric shocked. His whole body was stretch taut and in shambles. Even more annoying was, he surprisingly even had a reaction... more over his reaction didn't go the least bit away. In the end, it forced him to go to the restroom and stay a good half hour. That feeling left him feeling very dejected. It was as if someone was playing with him. When they came back, he started to frequently glance at her. Truthfully speaking, his mother was a beauty. Compared to other guys, his beauty standards were a bit higher. For the whole night, after looking at her for so long, he didn't get tired of looking. Instead, the more he looked, the more he thought that she was pretty. After the birthday party ended, he send the wasted Wu Hao back home. While doing so, he found Qin Zhiai's present from the pile of Wu Hao's birthday presents. He ran to a gift shop that hadn't yet closed shop, bought an identical music box, and swapped the two. It was probably from that time, that whenever she appeared, he would always immediately look towards her. At that time, everyone wore school uniforms. But the same school uniform looked exceptionally pretty when she wore it. She wasn't like the debutantes he knew. She didn't have as good of a family background. What she used and wore were all relatively cheap, but that didn't impact her from keeping a nice appearance. Sometimes her head of long jet-black hair would be combed into a ponytail. Other times it would be let down or tied into a cute bun… He had been paying attention to her for a long time now. And thus, he slowly started to realize exactly how popular she was with guys. It’s unclear if she was confessed to too many times, but she was always calm in the face of love confessions, whether they be domineering or sentimental or timid. Though Gu Yusheng seemed calm and unperturbed after seeing all this, inside he felt a rush of emotions. After seeing her rejections and leaving, he would always do some weird things. Even he couldn’t understand his own little actions. For example, the basketball in his hand would accidentally fly off and smack the guy, who just wrote her a love letter, in the head. And in another instance, he didn’t hold his water bottle steady, carelessly spilling the water on a guy who just gave her a fan gift. And in another instance, some guy was pestering her too much. When the guy went to the restroom, Yusheng locked him in the stall for an entire class period. And in another instance, he would sneak into the school every night, go to her classroom, and take home all the snacks and love letters that were stuffed inside her drawer by some boys. And in another instance, one guy proudly said, “I wear the school uniform. Qin Zhiai also wears the school uniform. We both are wearing matching couple outfits.” Following, Yusheng took his cigarette and bumped into the guy, burning many holes in the guy’s uniform. Prior to the incident, he never wore the uniform since he was a rebellious youth, came from a good family background and no one managed him. But from that incident, he wore the school uniform like a model student, all they way until graduation… He thought, he probably got all his bad thoughts out of his system when he was a student. Oh, and it wasn’t just those bad thoughts. There was also some immaturity and shortcomings that other people didn’t know about.
Spoiler: Watching over Qin Zhiai At that time, she and Xu Wennuan were addicted to this rhythm game. They would frequently meet at noon at the internet café to play it. Zhiai was beautiful, and would attract a lot of unwanted attention from some troublemaker students. That day, by chance, he was preparing to head back to school but saw that in front of her computer, there was a delinquent who, with a very thick face, was incessantly bothering her. It was to the point where the delinquent even had the thought of reaching out and touching her. Luckily he didn’t end of touching her face, as she took her water bottle and knocked him away. Three days later, when Yusheng saw that same delinquent. It might have been because the delinquent was playing a game and shouting really noisily. Yusheng glanced twice at him before kicking away his own chair, and stood up. When he walked past the delinquent, and say that on his screen he was killing a boss who only had a pixel of HP left. At that moment, Yusheng reached out and pulled his computer plug. Next, there was bound to be a fight between the two of them. But whatever. He came with a pugnacious attitude anyway. Yusheng’s background far surpassed ordinary people. But at school, he never flaunted it and used it to pressure others. Except for that day, which was the first time he did that, and the only time he did that. After clashing with the delinquent and his friends, Yusheng called his grandpa, pretending that he fractured his arm. His grandpa, who held Yusheng very close to his heart, immediately rushed. Of course, his grandpa was accompanied by the local police officer. All the delinquents were handcuffed under the guise of battery. Once the internet café returned to its quiet state, Yusheng followed his grandpa onto the car. In a panic, his grandpa told the chauffeur to go to the hospital. Once school was out, he immediately hopped on his bike and after finding her silhouette, followed her home at a distance.She didn’t know that in the half month when the road was being repaired, he was like a stalker, silently accompanying her back. Spoiler: The bookstore Once, he saw her come out of the bookstore with a friend. The two were muttering about something. They were really immersed in the conversation and she didn’t notice him. When they passed from behind him, he heard their conversation. “What book did you borrow?” Zhiai’s friend asked. Qin Zhiai’s had a good temperament, her grades were good and she was pretty. He thought that such an outstanding girl would read literature like Dream of the Red Chamber, House of Kam Topples, or Float, since those would suit her. He thought that she would also reply with these sorts of book titles. Who knew that she picked up three books and flashed them in front of her friend. Unabashedly, she read in a crisp and pleasant voice, “Overbearing chairman topples his lovable wife, Mister I beg of you, love me, Demonic teacher, you’re so bad.” Yusheng had good vision, and clearly saw that on the three book’s illustrated covers, were half-naked guys baring their white chests. The girls heard this noise and simultaneously turned their heads in his direction. How could he let her know that he was secretly listening in on their conversation? He immediately pulled out his phone, pretending to call someone, and said, “Okay no problem. See you tonight…” Out of his peripheral vision, he could see very clearly that at that instant, she widened her eyes as if she saw some unbelievable person. The next second, her face flushed a deep red and she pulled her friend, running out. Seeing her embarrassed expression, his heart immediately felt lighter. It was the sort of feeling that he rarely came across ever since his mother had an affair and his father started drinking heavily. His lightheartedness continued on until three days later, on Xu Wennuan’ birthday. Spoiler: Xu Wennuan's birthday party That day, everyone went to dance until only Yusheng and Zhiai were left in the private room. It looked as if he was browsing his phone, when in reality his attention was fixed on her. She devoured the cake, while stealing a glance at him from time to time. Normally, he had an immunity to woman. But that was the first time when he lost his cool because of a girl. He didn’t want himself to lose control so he put down his phone and closed his eyes. Unexpectedly, she started to gather more courage and started to look at him more. He could clearly feel his heartbeat accelerating. Thinking back, he felt like the flustered him at that moment was so strange and unfamiliar. He took the initiative and said to her one word, “Hey” She raised her head and said, “hm” Seeing that he didn’t reply, she asked again, “can I help you?” There really wasn’t anything… Then, he truthfully spoke and replied, “Nothing. It’s just noticed you constantly peeking at me so I decided to acknowledge your existence.” The words caused the girl to flush a bright scarlet. That expression was incredibly cute, and Yusheng really wanted to pinch her cheeks a few times. She probably didn’t know how to reply to him. The room sunk into another period of silence. Yusheng, who was usually untalkative, suddenly had the urge to chat with her. But he never casually chatted with a girl before and didn’t know what to talk about. After thinking for a long while, he asked a very lame question, “What’s your name?” “I’m Qin Zhiai…” Of course he knew her name. But he never thought that after saying her name, she would continue on, “You can call me Little Ai. Clearly he liked her, but acted opposite to his feelings and caused her a great deal of embarrassment. She couldn’t even say anything after hearing his retort. He even went on and continued, saying “If you don’t like the ai in ai chi, then I’ll change it …” He pondered for a good while and thought of the incident at Wu Hao’s birthday when she toppled onto him and pressed against his dick. He impetuously said, “what about zuo ai (make love)’s ai?” This time it wasn’t just her face that flushed red. Even her eyes started to redden. Their opportunity to meet lessened. The next time they met was at night on the day when the exam finished. He sent her home that day. He dropped her off at the doorsteps, and intended to bike back. Who knew that she would call his name. “Gu Yusheng!” Her voiced trembled a little and carried tones of anxiousness. But it was the most beautiful “Gu Yusheng” he ever heard of in his life. He turned back toward her and saw her fretful expression. She stumbled over her words many times before finally being able to muster out, “Do, do you have time tomorrow? I, I, I would like to … invite you to the movies…” And that's where the "Their former love" arc ends at. Ahhhh Gu Yusheng, you and your reserved love. Well actually both of them. But then again, where would the story be if every novel had mature straightforward protagonists that straight up said "hey buddy I have a thing for you, wanna date?"
I actually cried at thatv date arc when I was reading it. And when the part where Gu Yusheng didn't show up many times...
ahaha that was fucking hilarious. I laughed my ass off when I got to that part. There is Juliet-kills-herself levels of crazy and then there is Liang Doukou-gets-plastic-surgery-to-win-over-her-crush's-heart level of crazy. Like damn woman there is no need to go so far. In the end your soul is still looking as nasty as ever.
Then when she found out that the number he gave her was unregistered or something like that. And then years later, when he said the reason why he gave that number. Ah! Ah! It really broke my heart.
She's pathetic, la! Hahaha. But the best part is when Yusheng threw her out of the villa and all her belongings! XD And then wth Spoiler another fave part is when MC became the assistant of Yusheng and they were in a hotel. Then Liang doukou came with the grandma. She commanded MC to buy some contraceptives and she was implying something that something's going on with her and Yusheng and she even went to his room. Hohoho
The feels man... I cried a lot too reading this book. God it was so heartwrenching. Yo Yusheng, JUST CHASE AFTER THE GODDAMN GIRL YOU NITWIT!! I know right? The regret and the anguish... I cry for you Yusheng. You dumbass. And then you just had to go and stand in the pouring rain and watch her waiting for you. Gaahhh..... the feels...

I love their character development yo! This novel made me cry a bucket, hate the ML and like him at the same time. Although the hate part is overruling the like. Because at firs AH! AH! Really. Yusheng doesn't even know what he's missing for! But I love the part where Spoiler he was about to propose to her before the accident and swapping incident.
now you made me curious orz ....so after he throws his real wife out, does he go look for her? what did the grampa say?
Spoiler yep. He actually asked the real wife who is 'she' and where is 'she' but LDK refused to say anything about the MC. And Yusheng have no idea who she is and how will he find her because there is no lead. I forgot how they two met again but he had this feeling that the MC's eyes were quite familiar and of course, LDK and her are look alike. Then he was trying to caught her, say like trying to make her drink the mango shake(the MC is alergic to that which he found out when they dated long before the swapping incident) but the MC drink the mango shake! And was enduring the allergy till she got home. She didn't even want Yusheng to know that she was the one who pretended to be his wife back then.
One thing that bothers me is....how can he not remember her when they dated???....does he have amnesia? Also one more thing....what did the grampa do when he kicked his wife out?...since he is one of her fans he will propably be angry
What I meant as swapping incident is when before LDK came back. They dated and Yusheng is falling inlove with her. As far as I know, the grandfather didn't even know and LDK was still clinging on grandpa. Although she was not living with Yusheng. Spoiler before LDK really came back. LDK and her manager hired some guys to rape the MC. Luckily Yusheng got their on time
You nailed it. It's amnesia. He was in the troops and got into an accident and hit his head or something. He lost all his memories of her. The reason why he got into the accident is pretty touching but I forgot why...
