dota works just fine for me always honestly, it's maybe not as fun as reading tka, but it has a charm to it that makes you wanna play it with your dota mates, if you have any good ones, if not then yes dota might be boring, if you have nobody that makes you want to play it

Their whole fast paced first person approach would be nearly impossible to use with the speeds they describe on a monitor. I think that the view choice would only work with VR.

I think all the other aspects would do very well.

+ Servers for only the most experienced of players. If the game suffered from a lack of players this would be a minus but with even a part of the popularity this game as in the novel this would be a good feature IRL.
+ Physical Account Cards for highly increased security. (With how easy it is to order stuff online i don't see this being a hassle in any way. The card is credit Card sized, not like you'd be carrying a floppy disk around with you all day).
+ Typical grind for it's genre (The only reason why the silver equipment is so tough to get is because it is all custom made with rare materials from Wild Bosses. 1 mistake and it gets destroyed wasting all those materials. So it makes sense that they are super rare. The next highest Tier of Equipment seems to be just as rare as it would be in any other similar game).
+ Seemingly good Guild System (a lot of it needs us to fill in the blanks but from what it has explicitly told us it seems like a good system).
+ With enough skill everyone can do the same thing. There is no super secret skill only taught to one person on the server or super rare job that makes him OP. Everyone is on an even playing field. How good you are depends on skill and knowledge. Not random encounters.
+ Weapon Creation System would be an absolute genre changing feature. It would be revolutionary and attract so many players with cool ideas and just in general make a stronger community.
+ It's Dungeon system sounds normal. Just what it needs to be.
+ To be able to interact with the environment to the extent the Novel describes would be another absolutely ground breaking feature. It would set itself so far apart from any competitors.
+ Holiday event with proper rewards for those involved.

+/- The Arena would need to be more balanced and IRL I assume it would be. The novel just used that to quickly describe a mechanic that he would easily be able to pass. I'm sure we'd have a better ELO ranking system if the game and its competitive arena were real.

Think that covers the big things. Been stocking up chapters lately so i could be a bit out of touch.

Wait, so Glory is first person? WTF? A long time ago, when I said that, people were going on about it being 3rd person.

    Chap 89:

"The match broadcast had many different points of views. They didn’t only have the player’s first-person view. Right now, it was a third-person view letting everyone see that Dancing Rain was circling around a small area scouting around."

Pretty sure it was mentioned much earlier than this, but a 5sec google gave me this one. And it is mentioned often as they use many tricks like blocking line of sight. No long ago TKA also mentioned that a knight shield blocks its use LOS when raised. This would not happen in 3rd person view.

Yes, I know Dragon Nest. Even played as healer there (Cleric? Can't remember what the healing class was. I had a shield though). Healing was a joke. It does scale with you, but it scaled poorly. In the end, most people just treat healers as a "good to have" thing. I guess this is why people stick with tried and true games like WoW and Guild Wars.

Now, I haven't really read the novel (I got to this thread because it was displayed on NU's homepage), but given the descriptions I read in this thread, I don't think it's WoW-like. For one, in WoW you can actually choose to not engage in PvP (there are PvE servers available). And if you're familiar with Warcraft's lore, many of the quests are simply intriguing, or downright hilarious, despite the fact that the individual quests themselves are nothing more than standard quest types (gather this, kill those, deliver that, speak to someone, escort, etc.). The only other time I experience this quality of storytelling is LOTRO. This, on the other hand, just sounds like your regular grinding, to be honest.

Also, first-person view in a MMORPG would just be terrible. Less situational awareness. In a large encounter, especially if you're in a support role, you need to always be aware of your surroundings. This is why most MMORPGs are in third person. In first person, you'd need to swivel your viewpoints a lot if you want to see what happens around you. Potentially nauseating.

It's quite very skill-based. Not for everyone.
Would make a very good concept game though.

I don't think "With enough skill everyone can do the same thing. There is no super secret skill only taught to one person on the server or super rare job that makes him OP. Everyone is on an even playing field. How good you are depends on skill and knowledge. Not random encounters." is a plus though. That is expected. Any game IRL that don't have that is would be called a broken design. But authors tend to give MC some cheats in the game, ignoring proper game design.

A game where even 1 pixel differences aiming affect the outcome THAT much? Maybe only for fun.

Ya, that one was more a point on issues i have with the novels not feasibility IRL. It is a plus for me as far as novels go. As much as i like LMS i hate the fact that there is stuff in the world that others simply will never have the chance to do or see.

You're right that IRL this is the only way to make a good game. Ark and LMS in reality would be huge bombs. They would make for cool replays but a player base would hate the designers for it.

The worst part about is game is it being 1st person AND being fast paced melee. Even I have trouble fighting melee in 1st person in M&B, despite it being relatively slow.

And we don't really know about the game lore. It seems to exists, but everyone are either experienced or just simply uninterested so the lore are skipped.

The arena isn't pure auto match making. You can random, or allow you to choose your opponent. You can even see their win loss records. What's wrong with a system that allows a player to challenge anyone?

Isn't random = auto match-making? Unless there is a mixed random option.

75% is a lot, you have to go around bully a lot of people below your skill rank to get that high. So if the match-making isn't broken, that said player has to either keep playing in a mixed random, despite knowing most in there are too weak to be a challenge, or arrange a match against weaker players repeatedly. Any reason is crap anyway.

Just curious. I don't read the novel. Can you tell me how the author implements this weapon creation system? Does it only affect appearance (which means that any item bonus comes from the base weapon, like in WoW's transmogrification), or does it also have custom bonuses? If it does, how is the custom bonus implemented? Is the player free to choose any combination of bonuses they want, as long as it is within a certain limit (a point system perhaps? Where what bonuses are available depends on your remaining crafting point).
