It was very well known that Liu Fen and the Lius of the town nearest Cang Qiong Mountain Sect had done well for themselves.

Actually, up until the Lius and Lins as well as the 'Shangs' had settled in, the place had actually been a village.

How were people to know that Cang Qiong Mountain Sect's Qing Jing Peak would invest so heavily into the place?

Plenty of land had been bought. More land had been cleared. Twenty entire estates with massive walls and fine, beautiful courtyard manor houses, veritable mansions had been built, with fine gardens and farmland with reasonable rents had been prepared, as well.

As a result of the reasonable rents on farmlands and on Qing Jing's large investment of also setting up shops for the inner circle's dependents and family members, the much larger town walls, with actual defensive formations, there had been an influx of newcomers, farmers and merchants in the main.

Many of the Qing Jing Peak's outer disciples- the majority, actually- had opted to take their families to that town as well, since their own living conditions had improved and it was rumored if they did well in the practical beast hunts and cultivation resource acquiring, they could ensure their families lived much better, more comfortable, healthier lives in a town under Qing Jing protection.

Ling Mei and Shang Bo's surviving friends now all had the family name of Shang, because Shang Bo had insisted on it. With puppy eyes.

He had also insisted on posthumously adopting all his dead friends under his name and burning incense, paper money, and large number of paper goods for them, constantly sending prayers to the deities in charge of the afterlife to be kind to them and grant them a speedy, comfortable rebirth into good, safe families with kind parents.

There was now a Shang family shrine on the estate grounds for those people.

Most certainly if any actual greedy people named Shang were to show up, Ling Mei knew it would be trouble.

Well. They would be happy to run them off so Shang Bo wouldn't have to deal with it.

Liu Cheung was a constant visitor on his spare time. His sister, Liu Fen having given birth recently to dragon and phoenix twins, the boy doted on his new little niece and nephew, if not on their rather easily intimidated father.

At least he wasn't bullying the man- Liu Fen, Wen Shishi and the male concubine, Yizhi, were 'managing' him very well indeed. While the third concubine, Daiyu, was living quite comfortably, her schemes were annoying the wife.

Alas, the husband in question had made repaying her (financially) for her efforts to save his life his personal sticking point, so the other three in the household were currently searching for some way to get her to leave on her own.

As for the businesses being transacted in town, there were many. Luxuries came in, luxuries came out.

...You do realize that the only way Yun Shengtian would let Daiyu go would be if they could convince him she would be better off with someone else, right? :V and even then he would load her arms with more presents and nice things than Feiyan got.

The luxuries that made this town worth going to were all made from plants and fungi, foreign plants and fungi from far, far places.

Exquisite sweets among which numbered the newly popular and rumored to be aphrodisiac 'chocolate' and 'chocha', foreign rare herbs, wonderful scents and spices, rare woods in many, many colors and shades, scented soaps, hair rinses, essential oils for medicine and massage, herbal teas and tincture mixtures, wines and liquors including something called 'mead', cosmetics, musical instruments, smooth polished sculptures, medicines, medicinal herbs, fungi and plants, dyes, furniture, foreign fruits and vegetables, inks and paints, even medication to prevent or cure malaria, as well as grounds which produced energizing and spiced drinks.

Actually, most of the fruits, vegetables, fungi and plants which produced them and all the other products were not merely foreign to the land, but also unbeknownst to the merchants and indeed everyone else, they were also foreign to the world, introduced by Qing Jing Peak's Peak Lord, who had gotten them either from Geten and its assorted realms and sister realms or the realms and worlds of the Eastern System.

Naturally these fine luxuries and rareties were spreading widely and selling at high prices.

Craftsmen and Artisans were starting to make their way into the town to get access to the new resources- resources which Qing Jing Peak completely controlled and exported through the Lius, Lins and Shangs.

Qing Jing Peak's garden dimensions had indeed worked completely as intended, nurturing plants, animals, fungi of all kinds, and plentifully too. Only the surplus was ever sold, and that after the Peak had stockpiled its own materials for the creation of talismans, magical items, artifacts, jewelry, furniture, and other such things, either mundane, medicinal or mystical.

Liu Cheung's visits to his new niece and nephew as well as the rest of his family always eased his feelings.

Liu Fen's new son and daughter naturally bore the last name of their father, Yun. They were, by everyone's reckoning, adorable.

Most certainly people were praising them, saying that they would be beauties when they grew up, though how much of that could be believed and how much was mere flattery to gain influence, resources and concessions, the Lius did not know.

Shizun certainly liked the pair. Indeed, Liu Cheung had watched him pick up the little boy and girl, each in their turn, smiling at them with such warmth that it felt as if it lit up the room, such gentleness that it caused hearts to skip a beat, before bestowing upon them fine jades as gifts, to be worn to bring them good luck.

Liu Cheung knew this meant Shizun would most likely start teaching the inner disciples how to make various kinds of ushabtis and golems called 'wondrous figurines' because such things could be hidden among a child's toys with only their family being the wiser.

The 'petting zoo' which Shizun had set up in one of the garden pocket dimensions was quite popular. The creatures within it, being fat, docile rabbits, various kinds of goat, sheep, llama, alpaca, vicuna and myriad species related to them, all had two things in common. Their coats were exquisitely soft and they were wonderfully gentle and docile.

In fact, they were so docile that they practically counted as pets for the whole peak, with even the outer disciples assisting in their care.

The fact that the creatures were likely exquisitely rare was well known among Qing Jing Peak's denizens. None of the varieties they could see were native to their land or the neighboring areas and no accounts of beasts overseas matched them.

The fact that their soft, fine wool was sheared off regularly and was processed into the incredibly warm, soft brocades, damasks, jacquards and other fabrics that had begun making names for themselves as exportable fabrics when the surplus was sold off after the entire peak had been outfitted, was also a closely guarded secret.

Mostly because no one wanted to take the chances that unscrupulous people would make their way up here to wreck the farms which produced the rare and foreign plants and fungi, or raised edible animals or the petting zoo in question.

It was rumored that Shizun was planning to set up fish farms for crustaceans, mollusks and fish of all sorts, next.

Mostly because he had taken to teleporting to the closer ports and docks, inspecting and sometimes purchasing more crustaceans, live mollusks such as oysters or abalone and fish of all kinds than what the peak actually needed.

You are absolutely right. Also low key mount making. The original wondrous figurines from DnD numbered many variants of animals, insects and birds which served as mounts or trackers.

 

...Coffee comes under the 'energizing drinks' label. Along with Klah. And Chocha, too. All three have also been used with many other similar varieties, to make sweets.

G is a cheating cheater. It is known. Chocha and chocha-la is also from Kelewan.

 

Bet G can also engineer them to explode in size and wreak havoc should it leave qing jing peak too. =D (you know..... just for fun.........
