    How are you all translating this term? When that arrogant character says, " 本大爷," what do you translate it as?
    What about when that boot licking side character says "大爷", what is your translation?

    If I translate " 本大爷" as "this granddaddy" or "this uncle," it will be weird if I then translate "大爷" as "granddaddy" or "uncle." Eg. "Grandaddy, this way to our VIP guestroom."

    I'm thinking of just using "this boss" and "boss" but I'm not sure if it captures the flavor of it.
    Or do you translate " 本大爷" as one thing and then "大爷" as something else?
    Thanks!

    What do you mean elsewhere? Or do you mean thread without title? I am confused, sorry for asking such a stupid question

    The title wasn't blank, at least to me. What I did was put Chinese characters in the title though.
    @robinhood, I was thinking "I, your grandfather, etc" too but in the end, if I use that, then 大爷 becomes grandfather too and then, that boot licking side character would end up saying, "Grandfather, we have premium meals at this inn." to a stranger....

    Or you can just change a bit, for example :
    本大爷 = This great one
    大爷 = Sir

    If you keep the original meaning of the sentence, i think readers won't mind it.
