I don't get how it can be considered the best sports anime. MAL has 49 sports series more highly rated. AniDB has 29. ANN 47. Anime-Planet doesn't have rating sorting, on most watched it is 21:st though. Those are objective measurements of people's enjoyment of the series. Basically saying it is a slightly above average sports anime (objectively) that I personally didn't enjoy (subjectively).
Haikyuu is really good for the simple reason that it doesnt have super powers involved; i suggest watching Yowamushi pedal - it is amazing, at first when i watched it, i was hesitant because the mc looks dorky and thought i wouldnt like it, fam when i started the next thing i knew i was alredy caught up with all the season, films and ova... its sooo good!!!!! also just pure effort without any superpowers!! for an anime initial d (drifting anime) is pretty fun, but there were loads of changes made from the manga, but still pretty cool and the music in it quite something if i do say so... - no superpowers... Slam Dunk is pretty fun as well and it is on Crunchyroll so you wouldnt have to rely on pirates to watch it... - very enjoyable retro sports anime, i didnt =touch it until recently because it was old, but it beats some of the newer sports anime in many areas!! i will not recommend Eyeshield because in my opinion it gave me cringe and pretty childish feel when i was watching it so i didnt go beyond e30.... but you might like it, if you like american rugby... i will also recommend All Out - awesome rugby anime with loads of manliness, when i watched it when it first started releasing, it gave me hype feelings and it was pretty good...
Yes they can. They majority is worse than the serious ones though. If you check any anime site for the sports category eyeshield around 50:th spot or prince of tennis is the first one that is focused on super powers to a noticeable degree. A bit over the top is fine to make it flashier or to show off something. There are few truly realistic sport anime but the best ones stick close to it.
Anime sites doesn't matter Nuf vote matter Jk Imo, the most interesting thing in superpowered sport anime is MC power growth, which is lacking in non superpowered one
In non super powered ones the MC grows a lot. That is almost the entire point of the series. Take Hajime no Ippo. He starts of as a normal person with a good sense of balance and lower body strength from working on a boat. He then learns the basics of boxing, powering up. He then trains those, powering up more. Then he learns combinations and trains durability even more. He powers up throughout all the seasons and it is mostly realistic. In team sports you have the MC slowly getting better. Take a pitcher for example. He might start out missing the strike zone, move on to a 9 zone split of the strike zone. Then learn a curve of some kind that misses a lot, improve it slowly over time, add another kind of pitch. Improve in speed on the original pitch. Slowly add in mind games. Then you have the entire team, synergy with the team. Catching opponents stealing a lead. The hitters slowly getting better and fielders starting to dive for the ball instead of jogging. Ending with taking the win they wouldn't have at the start of the season.
I would agree with you that Eyeshield was cringe and childish. I enjoyed it but it was more of a cartoon than a sport anime which was why I was surprised it was winning.
IDK, as much as I love One Outs, I feel like the MC was OP right from the beginning. Think the focus was on mind games rather than character growth, even if it was a team sport, but it's okay because Tokuchi was the highlight of the show.
One Outs is similar to Kaiji. It is about tricks, mind games and crushing people. It just happens to take place in a sports setting. Still a fine series.
Yeah I watched Kaiji right after One Outs. That scene when they had to walk across the plank high up above the buildings... just watching it made my palms sweaty. ;_; But Kaiji is not as OP as Tokuchi... Feel like Akagi is more similar to Tokuchi cause they're both super geniuses.
