Yea, MC basically cultivates to achieve stuff rather than cultivating for the sake of cultivation. Whether it is to improve his item crafting, or to defend himself from a known enemy. Rather than the typical motivation of "he wants to cultivate just because". This gives him motivation and dedication in bursts

That was one of his motivations, yes. The MC is cultivating in a very unorthodox manner so it is not clear cut. The MC cultivate yao arts, xiazhe sword, and mo body cultivation, and more stuff besides that including Spoiler Shen aka "God/Divine" Power And the powers synergize, transform from one to the other, etc. The MC never broke through to Jiandian (a xiuzhe cultivation rank), but he surpassed it with both mo and yao cultivation methods, and eventually he converted a huge amount of a different cultivation to ling cultivation skipping straight to yuanying without the relevant breakthroughs.
Honestly, it doesn't even matter considering his rate of advancement. Also, while there were a few short time skips, they were not the kind of "and then MC cultivated in a cave for 10/100/1000 years".
