methods to take blood from one's thumb

in various manga, anime and novels, when they need blood, they either bite their thumbs or cut it with their nails; with i think is extremely difficult ( and believe me, i tested both and failed ) so i would like to know other methods who at first seem feasible but is in fact almost impossibles

      Biting your tongue and spitting out blood is pretty common in CN novels. Though it would of course hurt.

      This maybe a bit off topic but anime peeps tend to have millions of liters of blood,either they're injured somewhere they will start coughing blood
