The usual scholar exam is still existed but, it's not by doing studying/reading/writing like usual, instead a scholar is someone that can cultivate their energy and the exam is by progressing your cultivation. You will get fame and honor, when your cultivation is higher, all ministers in the court have higher cultivation rank, even the emperor too. Only the emperor rank will not be announced, but realistically if as emperor you dont have the highest cultivation, how'd you conquer the court?

If people do wrong and bad things, their cultivation will stop or it will even disappear. Such as, having illegitimate children. And this is the case with the Original, who is an illegitimate child of a minister/noble son, and to cover it his father tried to kill him and throw him to the river. MC was saved by a story telling shopkeeper, and he stayed there as servant. Short story, after achieving cultivation, and be recorded as scholar, MC started his journey as an official of the court. He was given some kind of jade/amulet, that made him to transfer his consciousness to a tiger pup and be adopted by MC as his pet. With this, he could see MC's strangeness with all his modern knowledge and could support him to help the people more.

What I find very yuck and annoying is the behavior MC had with his tiger pup pet. I mean, I have pets, I love my cats, I treat them lovingly, and I certainly wouldnt mind spoiling them. But beegeezuz, MC's way in spoiling this pet, for me it's like a way to bestiality fetish. I say a way, not really there, dont worry, nothing of that. Until chapter 90s, MC still didnt know his pet is the emperor, and I feel like all the other characters are just not there. They're like smoke. MC interaction with other characters is so minimum, so lacking. No family, no friends.
