Yoongi can sense there’s more. “I think, well, why do we talk about things like the weather or whether the day was busy or not? It could be because it’s the common ground that connects us all. It’s an opportunity, Hyung. An opportunity for someone saying, this is me trying. We're all trying here.”
they’re both quiet for a bit.
“You’re awfully hopeful and optimistic.” Jeongguk grins. “It makes me sick.” Yoongi fake gags.
“I just don’t really see the point, I guess.” he says and shrugs. Yoongi is painfully aware he sometimes comes off as a pessimist. Maybe he just really hates small talk. Maybe he really just hates people, but he’s lying to himself.
“Did you just not hear what I said? You completely missed my point.” Jeongguk lets out a light sigh, crossing his arms too.
Yoongi hums, doesn’t know how to reply. Doesn’t know how he’s been faking this nonchalance for so long when deep down, he cares. He cares so much for this fiery world and the people living in it.
“I think it’s sweet. Sweet that people who don’t know you try to talk to you, you know? Even for a minute, in that however short amount of time, they're saying I care, I want to know how your day went,” Jeongguk continues, voice soft.
Yoongi mulls over his words. Thinks of certain obligations people have sometimes not because they care, thinks about telling it to Jeongguk but realises this is how I can change, so he stays quiet.
Jeongguk huffs. the faint sounds of traffic lull them both into a peaceful quiet.
Lowkey had a meltdown thinking about what the point is of small talk
