What if the parents had been simply careless (happens most of the times, I think)? What if the fetus was aborted only because it was female? Would a mother give up her happiness to allow her unborn child a chance at life?

No, it's universally accepted that only conscious and verbally communicative humans get to have rights... Not those dangling para.. Ahem fetuses.
