Today in the morning I went to watch the aquarium and first I saw that my ill cichlid was still lying in his palace that he wants to escape. His so called gilded cage
He wants to escape, but how does he not understand that others would eat him in a moment of his weakness?????? Actually it understands that. That is why it climbs up onto a filter to hide from others... But how can he not understand that it is still not safe for him even there???
"maybe he felt like he was in danger??" - no I placed him inside a plastic thingie on top of the aquarium. It connects to the water of the aquarium, so I don't have to worry about oxygen and temperature in it, but it is disconnected from the rest of the aquarium fishies
"the smaller fish ate them out of hunger??" - so I panicked and thought of the worst. They caught his illness and others preyed on them. But that didn't make sense to me. Because they were the biggest and the baddest. Plus they were a pair. Its not actually possible for others to prey on them so easily
So, I looked and looked. And I found them hiding thouroughly inside the nest that I made for them, surrounded by all kinds of plants. Their colors are not bright, so its extremely hard to spot them... And they were resting there together...
"size isn't everything, but from how you talk, I am guessing you found them??" - Yeah, it isn't. But among cichlids it does play a big role. Especially since its a pair, so one of them is the dominant male. It will probably grow to be the most dominant one in the tank...
By the way, I am waiting for that one shop to order a bunch of water tests. They said they would arrive a week after they order, so I am gonna buy them and only then would I be able to do everything properly...
To be honest, I did not like how a girl who came to buy items for her pet cat started tapping the glass of different aquariums. I cannot possibly imagine why the shopkeeper would not stop her. But since those were not my fish, I did not intervene
