For heavens' sake, use the goddanmed spoiler function! Here:

Use that and your text will be hidden, not everyone wants those god damned spoilers, seriously, second time already. I think that it will be a huuuuuuuuge amount of trouble tbh, but well, it's clear that the devouring is useful for them, so they'll be able to help Maine out somehow... Most likely, the Devouring is a nearly endless source of Mana, so it should be great for a temple that constantly needs magic tools! >.< I know, right!? They got way too enthusiastic! >.<
Its that even spoiler? There's an ignore button if you feel you need to use it. Btw i edited it. Seems stupid to put inside spoiler. As if i said that Spoiler the chalice is a magic tool that doesnt break down after 1 usage. Plus side is Maine can use it whenever she wants after the deal because theres a lack of nobles in the area that can supply mana.
You said it was spoilery yourself, y'know. It's a bit late to backpedal on that.. Anyway, spoilers aren't necessarily about exact details. Just the general gist of how something is gonna go is already a spoiler. That said, @AliceShiki, it took @ahuramagina four minutes to edit that post. Twenty five minutes later, I have to edit YOUR post to add spoiler tags to your quotation. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
Ah, sorry, I ended up opening the page when the alert from watching the thread appeared on my feed... I didn't refresh it after I finished reading the chapter, I just read it! I should have changed the text to a -snip- though... orz
You know the world is stupid if excess mana is such a big problem. And if the Temple has the way to fix it (for free?) right there, how come that noble girl or anybody else didn't know about it?
Freida isn't a noble, she is a Merchant with connections with the nobles. The devouring is a super rare disease that is probably very easy to exploit by nobles, so they would try to get monopoly over anyone with it I think. Which makes the temple gaining access to someone with it a huge blessing. The nobles and the temple probably don't disclose information about the devouring on purpose.
The chapter are going crazy!!! This chapter is like a roller coaster!! That part when maine cant choose between the books and her parents almost makes me cry!! My god maine you grow well!! Emotionally and physically!! I felt that this chapter is the entry way for the wider view of this world, and I felt that the church and the nobility have some feud between them. I cant wai for the next chapter!!!!!
What's the Temple's motive to keep it a secret? They seem to be disclosing some info to Maine right now, even though as far as they know she could be playacting rather than suffering from the Devouring. And if they can extract valuable mana or something out of children with the Devouring, why wouldn't they advertise their ability to handle it more widely so they could locate these children? If they don't, children with the disease could just die off, like Maine's host body actually did.
It's more like she's a drug addict. It's like for her every page of a book is made of cocaine.Doesn't even matter what's written in the book, maybe she's ok even with a phone directory. And the fever are withdrawal symptoms
*nod nod nod* It's really nice to see her growing like that!!!! I also think there might be something going on between them~ Probably a power struggle I'd guess. The devouring is most likely related to Mana Overflow... But Mana is something that should exist only on the nobility, it is a thing that proves that they have the power to rule... So what if a commoner is suddenly not only with Mana, but with overloading Mana? Wouldn't that conflict with the truth of only nobles having it? And as such, with the nobles' right to rule? (of course, Mana is not the only thing that dictates their right, but I assume it is a strong pillar on their ruling rights.) The temple most likely wants the nobles to keep on power, for the nobles also guarantee the church's rights, so the church would also want the devouring to be as secret as possible. If they were to spread it, they'd probably need to spread it as a big lie, so as to maskarade the devouring's true meaning. ... That's my guess at least! >.<
*flips table* I thought this meant a new chapter was released! I went to NU full of expectations, only to find out there was nothing!!!! >.<
They used to come every tuesday IIRC, but Blastron got busy with RL, so he just updates when he has time now. With that said, I check NU like... Once a week? Once a month? I usually discover if there is a chapter update because of a LCD bump. So... I get a bit disappointed when it's not! xD
New? I just checked NU and saw nothing though? Did it not get caught by the feed or something? Which is the new one?
You thank in dogeza. BTW, Maine is seriously maintained in the dark, in relation to the devouring, the church and other things that matter to her. This late in the game she learns that this is related to her mana... And that she has mana... Tumblr is faster than NU.
Well, there was no way of her knowing, so Benno's surprise was a bit weird... I mean, he and Freida were pretty much all of her information on the devouring. Rather, it is a bit weird for him to know about it in all honesty, Freida didn't seem to know it, as she never considered the possibility of learning how to make a magic tool to drain her own mana. Seems like the author messed up a bit this time. On another note, it's nice to see Benno's tsundere's side! xD
The premise of the novel is false (that paper was rare and costly in medieval times)... http://web.ceu.hu/medstud/manual/MMM/paper.html
