please check this out and lets put our minds together and figure out how we can do something about this.
the government doesnt help its people thus the people should help itself. cant we have contractors build apartments for the people and rent out the other apartments? if the government asks for land tax of this area then for every dollar they received they must put another dollar back in to help those that are in need of assistance in this area.

what do you think we should and can do for the city of rio? also spread this as far as possible

If they put a dollar back for every dollar taxed, what would be the point of tax in the first place? They would be literally giving every single penny they got back to it's source.

 

Sigh... this is just going to be a repeat of the World Cup fiasco. Brazil's such an absolute shit show right now, trying to come up with the money to hold the Olympics seems like a bad idea.

Edit: Err.. wait. Nvm, it's Venezuela that's the shit show. Good thing they're not hosting the Olympics.

 

well your first problem is the elite hold the power. Nothing gets done without their say so unless they get something equally beneficial out of the deal then nothing is bound to happen.

 

i feel sorry for the athletes. because of money (rich people get richer), they have to swim in shit (actual shit).
the only good event there is mountain bike racing.

The Olympics screw a countries economy so badly.... take Sochi for example, Russia is still reeling from that. Take an already poor economy, add more crime, no pay for the services necessary for safety, water pollution out the a*^, no safety in construction, Zika and many more factors... It is going to be scary. Hell a mutilated body just washed up on the beach where the (unfinished) beach volleyball venue is located. Nothing normal people can do, they have already spent 97% percent of the given money and have also flushed their already teetering economy into a tail spin, to the point they had to call for a financial emergency.

 

It also seems that there is a rather significant amount of unsold tickets to this year's Olympics due to Rio's infamy. The Brazilian government is racking their brains over this and apparently also giving out free tickets to some schools to fill up the number.

And adding in the fact that Brazil got absolutely OBLITERATED by Germany at the World Cup, things haven't been going well for Brazil lately.

 

Gotta wonder how the olympic committee feels placing their hopes in Rio and the good will of people. . . . only to find that greed is stronger. Especially when theres almost 0 accountability.

Both the Olympics and the World Cup are detriment to the economies. There are very few countries that can afford to host them but there's always local damage. Hell the 2004 Olympics are partially to blame for Greece fucked up economy. Not to mention that each Olympic has to be just as good or greater than the last which costs a lot of money.

 

Eh there are people far worse out there we only care about these one's because americans/1st world will be there for the games.

These Olympic Games are going to be a death trap for many of the swimmers. The waters in Brazil are extremely toxic and the organizers have no way of fixing the problem so they are going to ignore it. Many of these athletes are going to literally risk their health and lives for a chance to compete in these games.
