There is something I've noticed from a couple different novels that kind of aggravates me as a reader and I honestly want to know the reason behind the action.

Thankfully this isn't something that occurs terribly often, but why do translators sometimes put spoilers in their comments at the end of a chapter? I understand wanting to share with your readers the fun in reading, but sometimes that can ruin a plotline that the reader wanted to experience for themselves. Isn't there an easy way to either mark spoiler so that an unwary person can catch themselves before they read the note, or better yet, couldn't the tl-er put their comments in the actual comment section with a spoiler hiding button?

Anyways, this is my question to translators: why do you or your peers sometimes spoil things in your own ending comments? (Example: novel I'm reading the tl spoiled who the ml was 3 chapters before it was apparent. What if the readers wanted to finish the discovery on their own? I wanted the book to tell me who the ml was, not the translator)

Side note: thank you translators for all your hard work bringing us readers new books to enjoy.

I knew many would feel like this so I've never put any of those words in each update (though I add sometimes add unnecessary comments like complaints on the characters)

I don't mind comments at the end, it's the ones at the beginning of chapters that get up my goad. >.>

Honestly I've never seen any spoilers in TL notes before so I can't relate. Spoilers do suck though.

I've seen tl's requesting other commenters to not put spoilers but haven't seen any TL spoiling stories.

We might be reading different genre's. :blobcozy:

I don't remember ever seeing spoilers in t/l notes before. But if it is an issue I'd rec just pointing it out to the translator. That person or group may not be aware they are doing so. And it may sound easy to put a <spoiler> tag in for spoilers, but that only works if the tags are available. I'm not sure if Wordpres or Wix or any of the other site hosts have it natively. It may be something that requires an additional plug in or add on. I code my own site and I am struggling to write a javascript code for spoilers. I can do a <more> or <less> tag that targets everything, but I can't distinguish each individual instance.

You could also just ask them to add a "Please note: spoilers in the comment," at the start of their comments. That requires no skill, just forethought.
