    Hello,

I have a question about the harem type in this novel - City of Sin. I liked the synopsis and tags (army and kingdom building), however I am not big fan of Harem genre. Of course, there are many novels, which have made very good use of harem and in this kind of novels it doesn't bother you. However, I don't like novels there MC can get every girl and make them love him, in addition, the girls don't have any kind of conflict with each other and they try to give their all for the MC. However, I like how it is done in release that witch or Badge in Azure (I have only read it up to the 200 chapter and with MC is only 3 females and pretty much no romance is going on). So, if it is a typical cliche harem story please tell me .

    Thank you in advance

You don't have to worry about the harem part.

Hmm, how should I put it? Magic, strategies, wars, a bit of a schemes and etc. It is quite the interesting story, for me at least. You should just try it, I think you wont regret it.

I suspect the "one couple" thing is a strategy to reduce/control birth rate, I cant see any logic reason besides that... do note that I'm talking about both genders.
if stopping to think for a while, its just a paradox paradigm that no one know when started being passed down.

edit: I blame paradox 1nt3r4ct1v3 for that.

Read it. The novels harem is good enough to not get into the way of the main story and the females are actually people.

Like what @Feng Tian said, just read it. Try the first ten or so chapters, to get your feet wet. There is a large shift in tone and style by the end of volume one regarding the level of action and intrigue though the writing style stays largely the same.

The best thing about this author: THERE IS NO FILLER ARCS. It's like big fight -> clean up -> growth -> next big thing.

The harem is definitely there, and plays a VERY large role in the story (in fact, having arcs dedicated to them in multiple instances), but it isn't like they have to follow behind the MC like ducks after their mother.

By the way: the harem DOES have conflicts, although we haven't really had any times where most of the harem members were gathered together yet.

Somehow not sure what to think about this novel with this review with a bad note in the NU page:
"Regretfully, this would've been a good novel to read. It started out with a fantasy theme then later added with sci-fi then rubbish. The ending was very disappointing. The writer started pretty good where it looks like real literature compared to other chinese novels of trash this trash that and being bully. Efforts were put in where you can feel the morality of the MC fighting in his mind.

Of course the only good point here is that there are no GRANDPA's in this story. THANK GOODNESS!!! Another thing, the title is like so irrelevant.

This novel have too many flaws, discrepancy, inconsistency, and disappointments. Even a kindergartner can do better math than the writer.

The writer introduces various plots, conspiracies, and such but never follow through. This can be like a mini version of Games of Thrones. Some content came from mmorpg such as WOW, Diablo, and others. Even greek mythology was pulled into this story. Interesting enough, even Star Trek: The Next Generation was included (Assimilate!). Ah.... it was a good idea at first but the writer still failed by reverting to the 17k. com theme of gibberish. I cannot believe a chapter can get so many paragraphs of the same thing in various modifications (such as **** 3 years***** or 3 years ****** or ******* 3 yrs etc...). That was like after the 1st 1/2 of the story. The writer wasted so many chapters on gibberish whereas it could've been used to expanding out contents of the story to make it more attractive.

Lastly (almost but have to be so), the writer cheated very so often just by pointing out something but not even giving any good explanation or detail. Everything were so vague to the point of foggy and blurring your imaginations. Good thing this only ended up about a 1000+ chapters, if not I would've ended it 1/2 about the 500 or so mark.

Only 2 stars worth. 1 for not being so totally knock-off product with a bit of creativity. The other for being to pull me to finish the novel. Although it was a bit disappointing from the 1/2 way point to the end and especially the end. The end was like a rush to finish but not so rough.

One last final thought-the writer is a pure pervert. No romance one bit and plenty of rape and molesting. So lock your doors and keep your daughters away. Maybe son too cause there were some gray areas as well."

According to a study, the average amount of people you'd invite to join you in a bar when you are there and they come in is 150 people. This is the number of close acquaintances, not friends. Around a tenth of that is the number of friends whom you often interact with. And according to another study, most people are incapable of loving more that two people at a time, with a hard limit being 3,beforee the love turns into feeling well about them and lust. So no, I don't think there is much real love in the harems that some authors write where in the end he got over a dozen pokemo- *wives. But perhaps that is just for us mortals, since immortals have infinite lifespans, they can surely love as many people as they want, given time.

You are right that "one couple" is good strategy for birth control, but look at the history and there are much more easy and brutal ways for it. And If you ask me I think it started more after the stabilization of the tribe system and more towards when humanity was starting walk on the path of civilization. I think that biggest factor became human's possessive nature, which was hard to express when you are always under the threat of death. Not many likes sharing thing which have some kind of value to them.

being just "one couple" did nothing for birth control though. remember 100 years ago? there were many "one couple" gave birth to a dozen children? Not quite effective, is it? unless you mean that widow(er)s can't remarry or that it's only now in the industrialized world, where having many children is much more burdensome than having one without even a better payout (them caring better for you when you are old)

Whoever read the novel and gave it a bad rating either is a hardcore ATG style fan, dislikes a somewhat logical setting or is flat out ignorant and did not read the novel. Loose plot points were always tied up later so far. I wont say the novel is flawless (none are anyway) but its WELL above the average. Even if the average does not include the absolute trash.
The harem is plot relevant and will continue to be so. The females are all decently well written characters and they do actually have conflicts with each other. Granted that only two of them actually met so far we cant say too much about it but due to plot reasons one of them holds a much higher rank than the other which solves the issue somewhat.
Read the story by all means, its very good for WW standards.

I dont mean the biggest factor, only the logic I see about having only one couple. The possessive nature can work on harems too, in harem patriarchal societies few men will accept his harem being used/sleeping with others man, in matriarchal the opposite should be true. If there are laws about it, the harem members will likely be possessive too.
ofc, there are very weirds customs out there.

I still new, wasnt born 100 years ago, but if just one couple can give birth to dozen children, the same man can get two or more amount with more women... and hopefully die while on it.

wtf, I dont even remember what this thread is about.
