In cultivation chat group the mc has Confucian monkeys as a part of his body strengthening skill. When they appear they read from their Confucian text and chant 666 according to google translate. Then there are a couple places where the mc chants 666 as a sort of cheer but is stopped because he's not a monkey. So my question isn't so much why they do that (though I'd be interested to know that as well) but rather what it means. Is there some other meaning to chanting 666 in Chinese culture? Like is it a cheer or something to do with monkeys or relating to Confucianism? Or is it just mtl garble
That was an interesting search in Google. My eyes didn't want to pop out or melt or explode as it normally does when I search some obscure thing I learn of here. Sooooooooooooo....this is what Uncle Google said: https://www.quora.com/What-does-6666-mean-in-Chinese It sounds about right considering your question? What do you think?
One novel I was reading had a footnote saying 666666 was the equivalent to "gg" in english. I feel like I usually use gg sarcastically, but the footnote seemed to imply it was actually meant in the original context of like sportsmanship and compliments, not making fun of someone for being trash.
666 = thumbs up as in saying good job. Read quite a few CH novels and it was often explained. Maybe you didnt read enough? :0
I thought it was just the 'Liù Liù Liù' with a temple monk feel to it, so I just imagined Age of Empires 2 monks and their wololololol...
Ah yep it's the more colloquial form of Liù Liù Liù. I guess I haven't read enough CN novels though that might be a good thing with all that face slapping flying around... Thanks y'all
See the glossary linked in my signature. Or if you can't be bothered, here's my explanation: And like all other terms, it can be used sarcastically.
