Question [CN] How do you guys come up with cultivation names?

Just wondering

 

Take words and see if it sounds cool.

 

If you are too lazy to combine words, I guess you could go to wuxiaworld and use the daoist name generator. http://www.wuxiaworld.com/what-is-your-daoist-name/

 

Also, a lot of names are thematic so keep that in mind. Of course, there are some names that aren't made by one but given to one by others, whether through deeds, location, etc.

As for me:

Daoist Waifu Eternal

 

I go the lazy way pick a number, colour, animal

I.e the 7 scarlet tiger plam.

 

Often parts of the name already have a prior translation or references something that exists already.

Experienced, savvy and native translators can often recognise these and give a name according to already established translations.

For totally new stuff just translated the best sounding according to what you think the authors intent behind the baking was.

 

For example, like this 鈇风蓝锯天
We call the move, "Wind axe bluishly cutting the sky". Google translate gives you "wind blue sawing day" though.
