The biggest thing I’ve seen is word play. Because the bots censure specific words, the author tries to get their meaning across without those words. What’s funny is some of those words are benign. So we get euphemisms like chrysanthemum etc. sometimes it’s pretty funny reading smutty parts where the author is trying not to use any censored words.

There are multiple ways, but some of the biggest ways would be word play, not a lot of romance, make it more like bromance instead of bl, some might even go to another country to publish it.

Word play and not a lot of romance (like skipping over a lot of romantic parts) are definitely the biggest ones I have seen used by authors.

Just... using homonyms or euphemisms for everything XD

Though considering how there's a genre for it on JJWXC, I don't think it's... that controversial.

So far I’ve heard of authors posting extras/smutty parts of chapters on Weibo, or even group chats on QQ and WeChat

It's technically illegal to write BL all it takes is a quick google search and you see articles about authors getting in trouble. Censorship is more strict on TV or movie adaption, though. Novels is junior, the chapters get locked after they reported and people can use report him for nothing. I remember when I was complaining because somebody was reporting all of her chapters, you would have to get them reviewed and she was getting fined. Her cookies in even kiss or hold hands, her chapters keep getting reported for disturbing public morals.

Yup, I used to see that but I see less of it now. Censorship sucks :blobtriumph:

I’m pretty sure in Pastel Colours, they use dumplings and “milking” to describe sex. I also mtled it so I’m not sure.

Noo :c I've been meaning to ask about how can those of us who are foreigners find these precious R18 hidden chapters if we don't have accounts on the various social media. But if authors are doing them less period, that sucks :blob_teary:

I know, it's getting harder to find any stories that have smut or explicit. I'm not even saying super explicit, kissing scenes are becoming less and less too. It's gotten to the point where I'm happy it's implied. :blobflag:

I didn't even realize BL was censored until reading this thread...

But yes, I agree that they use euphemisms and homonyms that are commonly understood by the BL community. It's like they have their own secret language in a way.

There is explicit stuff around, though not on the main sites. You probably just need to use the right key phrase with your search.

On jjwxc it is, sadly, you cannot show anything "explicit." So fade to black or very euphemistic. There are other publishers that allow explicit BL thankfully~ tho I have no idea how they get around Chinese censorship laws. Maybe because they're much smaller?? Idk.
!!!!! Teach me sensei, the ways of key phrases to search .......... :blobpeek:
