Discussion Dear BL lovers, have you ever converted anyone into your rotten ways?

I had a realization that I'm surrounded with BL lovers. Yet, even after years of knowing them and what they read, I have never been converted in their ways. The few BL novels I've read are things I found myself while looking for a different tag or genre. It just so happened they are bl.

So, for my questions, have you ever converted anyone into liking bl? Do you even try? Do you like talking about bl to someone neutral about it (simply because you like talking about your likes)? How does it feel when you find a fellow bl lover accidentally (like maybe outside the forum or someone in NUF but you didn't expect they like bl)?

For me, it's more of a normal genre. If there is a novel that I feel like reading from it, I read it. But I don't really go hunting for BL. And most people usually are clear on whether they want BL recs or not so I don't think I've converted anyone.

I have never converted anyone (as far as I know lol) people just found Bls when searching for other things and see if they either like it or not, most of the times

 

I have never been a lover of BL nor read BL with likeness, only curiousity and disgust. But I can't deny I have converted a few of my female classmates to the world of BL, primarily because my fondness to create bromantic situations with my classmates that they misunderstood it as romance. I especially got scared that while my writing skills aren't to be seen to be best, I do give some situation, showcasing bromance and had them awaken some of the girl's inner dark sides that I mostly likely traumatize myself from writing any bromance novels.

 

Well imo the "conversion" totally happens because of your own interest and generally when you are a teenager.

For example I do like yuri now but I don't go actively searching for yuri porn. It is there. I like it. (Even if it's porn). So I haven't been "converted" to a himejoshi.

But when it comes to yaoi, it was a very long development for me. Its mainly because I was in denial and kinda homophobic against gay ships. I was like "just whatever the hell is so nice about yaoi" right when I was developing and growing into an adult. I started reading it and I gradually became fully addicted to yaoi.

Even now if I pick up anything I will search "x and x yaoi" pictures in the fandom. That's the degree of my obsession.

Also thirdly it also depends on your sexuality imo, most of the girls who are into yaoi have kinda less romantic experience in real life. They find men distasteful because of them not being relatable and often unattractive in straight media OR the girl is too stupid and one dimensional. But it's a yaoi boy, the fujoshis often find themselves in a relatable position.

BL or yaoi with disgust? You don't need to read it at all yanno? You sound like a toxic man.

If you hate bl in general then I am doubting if you were born in the wrong era. Grow up.

put that aside, once this cat recommend BL to a friend for the lul but it turn her into path of fujo...that recommendation was anime~ no not boku no pico, it was shounen ai stuff but she somehow feel the couple is cute (this cat agree) then she try find similar stuff up to discovery of FB group for BL fans~
put on mind this cat have neutral stand toward BL neither fan or hater~
it kinda weird when they become so enthusiast talking about BL and recommend bunch of BL at my face.....

I've read like... One BL manga and one webtoon.

It's not exactly my cup of tea, but I don't dislike it either. The manga I read through recommendations, the webtoon I found on my own without even knowing it was BL~

I don't think anyone really tried to convert me, but I did try out recommendations (just remembered I also read a one shot) at least... I dunno, I guess it's just not my cup of tea in the end~

Nope, I don't think I've ever "converted" someone. Like... if someone's asking for recs, I'll first ask "is BL okay or not?" and if they say "no"... well, that's that. I'm not gonna shove BL on them haha

BL is what I read primarily though!! I just don't really like BG romance that much, though there are some exceptions

 

I got into bl because of their plot, liked it, and read more it. I talked about it to someone, but didn't really enticed her into reading it.

The bl lovers that I know already loves bl so I don't need to convert them. The rest on the other hand, feels uncomfortable/don't like bl stories.

 

I prefer Shounen Ai or some Bl stories, a lot of yaoi is...well, the definition of yaoi when you look it up. And it's made by women for women so I'm kinda on the edge with my feelings about that since it's sexualizing an orientation.
Some of the stories are good~ I like the ones with humour in it, it's pretty refreshing, or when there are 'different' stories without the tropes and cookie-cutter syndrome.

I was dating someone around December and February, and a friend of mine at the time made them read something called "BJ Alex"
I was pissed I didn't want them to read it. But they did, and I can't remember if they hated it or not, I think they thought it was weird (especially the second couple, iyk, yk).
We broke up anyway (haha...), but it pops in my mind every now and then, and I kinda laugh. I don't think about 'converting' anyone to read bl. I do wish it could be in the romance section and simply marked as 'romance' like some Webtoons are (Ex: "The Doctors are Out" is my favourite example, "Boyfriends", and not a M|M but a W|W "Mage and Demon Queen".)

There is something about a different aura and plot that you can not find in 'straight' romance, but more often I think there's more humour is what it is. and even a little relate-ability haha
