Eclipse sounds good but it's more related to the capital city than the empire. I think for the empire it's more meaningful to have this name. And it sounds good.
Vida is guided by Van, so is Zuruwan and Ricklent? yes, obviously that why 3 great gods that all think your wrong are siding with Van, it has to be, problem solved, everything is Vans fault, Alda has done absolutely nothing wrong
Yeah, since he killed the god who tried to kill him by possessing his believers and taking a city hostage, we have the grounds to condemn him. Self-defense is an ugly crime, I can't believe some people don't let themselves be killed by gods.

Darkness from a human point of view, anything that can see into the infrared or ultraviolet spectrum of the light would still be able to see. I think the spell works more like a prism, point light beam at it in one angle and it will exit in a different one. Do that for all the light in an area and you have darkness in that area = no light at all.
Was Alda even the one saying that, I thought it was just narration explaining his thought process? I doubt he would tell anyone out loud that he he was guided by Bellwood.
