I am thinking about starting DE as I finished ST and loved it so what are your suggestion people and how many chapters left to be translated and I am hesitant about the death of loved one tag can anyone say vaguely without spoiler
its an IET story anyway, so don't worry too much about the romance without spoilers.. hmm MC is part of this big organization, fighting against another big organization for them to live in the three realms towards the mid-late ends of the fight between the two orgs MC gets powerful enough to influence/decide the result of battles rival org has some dirt on the MCs loved one, so they use that to blackmail her into doing shit, when that reaches its limit they use the dirt and loved one's life to blackmail MC instead, when even that reached its end rival org killed MCs loved one
If you have problems with "DEATH OF LOVED ONE" tag you shouldn't read a novel from IET i myself stopped reading this bullshit, one is ok,two you can accept, but three is way too much (aside from that the novels are pretty good if you ignore certain issues like : MC always is driven because either some injuries that put the female lead to near-death state or because he is trying to revive her.) ( the romance sucks, for someone whos lover, is generally immortal or can live really long years there is almost no scenes of the couple interacting, after they are stuck on the first situation i described you don't feel hardly anything, because the character is just like a ghost which rarely appears and when it appears it is just short sentences, you don't have enough time to like her)
Desolate Era is really, really depressing and tragic for the first 10-20 books. It's the level of feels of Spoiler: CD+ST Alice dumping Linley and Qin Yu sacrificing himself for his father , repeated for an entire war. It becomes much lighter afterwards (thank God), but honestly IET could pull us back to that mood anytime as things stand.
death scene was literally enemy superpower closing his fist then MC goes batshit crazy, gets OP as fuck, and proceeds to wreck face
Really ? maybe it's because we read a lot of novels that we can't think it's really dramatic but if you think about it if it was real it's really dramatic, Spoiler she was forced to kill her own love but refuse and "just turn the current" of the war for the enemy and after even when she wanted to die she was used to threaten ning and forced him to go on a suicide mission but ning return and he has a big enough dao heart to let her go in the hell of the godking because he know he can't save her, and finally her soul was destroyed in front of him, yes, yes not to dramatic.
It's a xianxia, so what if his loved one dies? They're only shallow side characters, even if they were realistic and you became attached to them so what? Then don't just read fking novels, zomfg what you want everything to be shiny rainbow like?
Rather than not being dramatic, it more like IET is poor at writing romance so the scene just didn't have that much impact.
I was going to talk at length about how sad I felt it was, and how I couldn't last if IET didn't ease up on Ning, but then I remembered OP asked for minimal spoilers and spoilers are irresistible. PS: So many readers don't seem to get this, but a romance isn't good because of beautiful imagery, but because you empathize with and grow attached to the characters. There is no "great" romance. You ever mesh with the story, or you don't. I loved Linley for his calmness; Qin Yu grew on me with his single-mindedness and self-sacrifice; Ji Ning for his struggles and loss (although he has some of Linley's calmness); Meng Hao for his romanticism; etc. There is no "great" romance, just those characters you empathize with. IET's characters have the most likable characters I've come across in CNs. Thus, his romance is great to me.
Spoiler the events leading up to her death was dramatic, her actual death not so much dramatic stuff: yu wei refusing the godking's orders to bring ning into certain death, yu wei's suicide 'death', ning being blackmailed and refusing thus sending yu wei's soul into hell, ning going fuckall to force seamless gate to submit, ning being given the ultimatum, ning returning alive from undermoon lake only to be denied again by the godking, ning owning the envoy in battle, ning going berserk after godking kills yu wei once and for all not so dramatic stuff: godking killing yu wei by closing his fist
