I hate steam. The fact that they help fledgling game developers is awesome. The fact that they have you on a dog leash regarding anything you buy there is pure crap.

One hell of a faulty dog leash they have.
I've more than one friend who pirate their games or a few honest ones who simply use other platforms.

Steam is only the biggest... not the only platform though. Plenty of options if you arent into all those indie games who go to steam for exposure.

Well if the policy hadn't change then I guess he mean that when you buy a game you aren't actually buying it but instead you buy a permission to play the game. Not sure if this still runs it's been a few years since I read the terms and conditions

That permission is entirely tied to steam and whatever rules it lays on. The games are tied to the steam app which constantly makes you check in to play them. Lose your internet signal good possibility of losing access to your games. I love what they do for indie gamers. I do. But I hate how the system works as a consumer. If steam ever goes out of business or gets bought out you could lose everything you bought. With a new company you might not like all the strings attached. Stuff happens. Which is why I like the security of owning a physical or digital copy. If crap happens, you're good. As long as that crap isn't a fire or something. At least they don't charge a subscription as well. It makes me feel like I'm buying a game at half price just so long as I ask their permission before I play it. It just irks me to buy a product and never be able to own it. It's a heavy handed greedy domineering way to do business. So yeah it irks me. Rant rant bark bark I'm done.

I also don't like what happens with that but is more than unlikely that valve goes bankrupt, I did like what they do with indies but the system got so abused that they needed to changed it, about the internet part my connection is very shitty but there is the disconnected mode where you can play but not online and can't chat with your friends, I remember that I used to play DAO on origin and each time I wanted to play it asked me for a code that i couldn't get if I lacked internet connection
