So... When someone asks you "do you read books?" or "what do you like to do?" And you, as the nuffian you are, only read novels, mostly sourced from this very site may i add, what do you answer? To the first question, do you count novels as books? Would you say "yes" or would you say "no i read novels"? I mean, they are kinda of books but are they books books? And for the second question do you say "i like to read books" "i like to read" or "i like to read novels"? It may sound stupid but I need answers. RESOLVED: MOST NUFFIANS DO CONSIDER NOVELS AS BOOKS!
I’m assuming you mean web novels and I have two answers: First, yes, web novels are books. Even if they aren’t officially published, they are still written works that tell an overarching story. Though, from a literal sense, the definition of a book is written word, printed and bound together… so I guess they’d be more equivalent to ebooks lol But on another note, I have also done calculations to determine how many chapters a webnovel must have, approximately, to reach the length of the standard U.S. book. For Chinese novels, when you take into account the average number of characters per chapter and the average number of words per U.S. book. 40 webnovel chapters is equivalent to the average book from the U.S. So, a 200 chapter webnovel is close to around a 5 book series.
Damn we getting facts fr fr? Okay i like it it's crazy, normally imo 40 ch is a really short novel but it's actually equivalent to a book? That's insane
If I’m comfortable, I’ll explain I read webnovels published by writers online, etc etc. Otherwise, its “I like to read”
local pocketbooks in my country are only 11+ chapters so if you consider that 40 chapters is already a book at least from my country. also some webnovels from jjwxc and syosetu also get published to books.
I did a little math with ISSTH as a template. INFO: QI's page says ISSTH has approximately 4,962,300 Chinese characters. ISSTH has 1616 chapters (including side stories). Websites say 1,000 Chinese characters is roughly equal to 650 English words. What is generally considered book-length is between 70,000 and 100,000 words. MATH: Average number of Chinese characters per ISSTH chapter: ~3070.7 Average number of English words per ISSTH chapter: ~1996.0 Number of ISSTH chapters in a 100,000-word book: almost exactly 50.1 Number of ISSTH chapters in a 70,000-word book: ~35.1 So, if ISSTH chapters are pretty close to standard CN chapter lengths, @Eccentricstate is about right. Edit: some wording corrections
'digital book' is an official term, so yes we do read books. a lot webnovels ' writing is more amateurish since they aren't very edited, but there are lots of published books with mediocre writing too Also, I'm pretty sure most nuffians have read printed books before (and probably still do every once in a while), and this site does include light novels too.
What an odd question. Is a book a book? The answer is so obvious that it's not really worth dwelling on. But if you want to logic it out it's still pretty straightforward. I don't think anyone out there would disagree that an ebook is still a book in all intents and purposes. The only difference between it and a traditional paper book is that you're reading it on an eReader. So what's the difference between an ebook and a webnovel. Realistically, they're just formatted differently. And a book that's formatted a bit differently is still a book.
It’s like curry. The English group it all together and called it curry. Novel are like that. Personally, for me any story is worth reading. Finishing it is another story. Lol. When someone ask me what I like to do. I say I like to read. I never say I read light novels, mangas, comics, web novels or etc. I just say I like to read. I may say I like reading books. Which wouldn’t be a lie. I do, but it isn’t all that I read. I never limit myself to one thing. I have read self help books. I have read Thor comic books. I have read romance novels. I never judge a book by its cove (thou honestly I do that sometimes. Lol). I like what I like. So it’s not about books, novel or anything. It’s about the joy you have for reading. And that’s what matters in the end
I honestly don't know enough nuf lore to know what it means but i shall make it an option just for you<3
Nah, I wouldn't really consider them books. I agree with E books being digital copies of books, but webnovels are an entirely different format; however, if and when they come out in print, they become books (and this would include manga tankobons as well).
