Donations with benefits are finally here

Translator splits the chapter into 2 parts just so non donators are forced to only be able to read half a chapter while donators are able to read the whole chapter.

Not as bad as splitting the chapter into 2. But gives donators earlier access to the next chapter.

Translators should stop calling "donations" donations and should start calling it "bribes."

How can it still be called a donation when you expect something in return?

Does it actually change the rate of release in anyway in your examples because as far as I'm aware ISSTH still does 14-16chapters a week so what difference is there.

 

I never donate and I dont have a problem with translators offering incentives for increased donations.Upto the translators really and its nice that donators get some preferential treatment except their names in donators list which is completely useless.Also normal release rates arent affected so nothing to complain about really.

 

nah, lotta people are doing the early release thing with patreon -- which is fair, a lot of them are spending a lot of their professional time doing it - or like Sir Great and Honourable Deathblade, are doing it full time professionally as their job. so of course.

that said, releasing only half a chapter and then asking "donations" isn't right, just call it a subscription. and if it's like that, is the bloke sharing the money he gets with the OG author? otherwise it's straight up profiteering. I'm all for piracy (long live), but that's just alienating the author and the internets of readers.

 

I don't read the 8 the mage thingy but leaving people with only half the chapter is...Professionally evil~~ muchers like me can only live upon our good karma~

 

Rather than donations, for a long time they have felt like "commissions" to me. But if they cease to release them unless you pay, it really can't be called a donation anymore but instead becomes a paid "service"

 

It was never truly a donation. The word donation was just used cos its sounds better than saying pay me for more chapters.

 

To be fair ISSTH is using patreon now, so I think it's not even officially donations either. But I'm not entirely sure what patreon counts as.

 

It isn't the first time for the early access thing and translation is an 'job' for Deathblade (translator of ISSTH). Moreover for me, Patreon is different from donations since the beginning.
And yeah the new era with early access is coming, translators should quickly adapt with this new era if they want to get benefits quickly before others (It isn't as if readers have an unlimited money afterall)

I understand you want a remuneration and i'm fine with that but having to pay to read the chapter is exactly what i hate. Only those who have money would be able to read and enjoy the novel while the poor who can't donate or the kids who don't even have a bank account wont be able to read...

Well, it actually can be accurately called a donation unless they refuse to provide unless paid. But commission is, I think, an even more accurate word for it, since most will do an extra Chapter if given enough.

 

I've been in this hobby for so long that I just ignore anything that has anything to do with "donations".

What R8Cm did was post a teaser for the next chapter. Patreon sponsors get early access to the chapter. Others will get it later.

There were already a few grouos who did similar stuff. No big deal.

 

Donate if you are that anxious to read. These donations are what keeps these translations free and consistent
