I haven't read pursuit of the truth or his latest QI(death to qidian....) novel so i will leave those out of this thread. I have read issth, a will eternal and renegade immortal so far and i have found some common points among them. 1. The cultivation system : 1st step -> 2nd step -> 3rd step -> 4th step. Steps with similar sounding realm names (feels stupid even mentioning this point) 2. The mc always finds an op treasure in the beginning : meng hao's copper mirror, wang lin's heaven defying bead, bai xiaochun's turtle wok... 3. The mc ALWAYS comes from a lower realm : meng hao's mountain n seas realm was so lil compared to the vast expanse, wang lin comes from the cave world( lower realm created by a third step cultivator) and bai xiaochun's original world was just a part of the eternal lands... Did u find any other similarities?
Aren't those staples of many/most cultivation novels? Well, the second point is either an OP treasure or some sort of OP bloodline/talent/reincarnation that the MC has, but yeah. Er Gen sometimes involves philosophy in his writing, so that's sometimes cool.
This topic is the equivalent of saying that in clint eastwood movies commonly: 1) have sherrifs, frontiersman, banditos, and injuns 2) that cowboys use guns and the main character shoots well and everyone else doesn't 3) the main character is usually some lone drifter/traveler from out of town who becomes the law/ solves the local bandit problem; oh and that it takes place in the mid 1850's us midwest that's how the genre works.
The romance is not so good in all those novels? And there are very good arcs like when in renegade immortal the mc lives a life as mortal until he becomes old and there are shit arcs when ppl just fight imo I haven't read pursuit of truth too yet I think lol Can you spoiler me on atte/awe, I didn't finish reading that
I always find it strange how so many people have read RI or AWE (I ignore ISSTH because it was extremely popular), but haven't read Pursuit of the Truth which is debatable his best novel or at least much better than AWE. Should I blame qidian for that? If you want similarities, not a single MC is the returnee, reincarnator or isekai type protagonist, which makes them super rare.
Mc defeats the guy who is trying to kill everything in the universe to achieve his dao of extermination and reach the 4th step. Creates a universe from the beginning to reach the 4th step himself. Brings back all of his loved ones. Goes on a journey across the universe with them. Also, finds the bottle with the message meng hao threw(in the first few chapters of issth). Turns out even the bottle has karma power n ties it around ppl to make them owe meng hao money. Erases that karma n message n writes "remember to have only one daoist partner" kek
Only read ISSTH which I thought for the longest time was I Shall Shatter The Heavens. I didn't finish it and I think his stories lose steam. 300 chapters would have been perfect. Soohoo was deal crap but that it lasted only 116 chapters, I still remembered the parts I liked when I dragged myself to the end .Well more like reading the last sentence of the final chapter while keeping skipping the last 10 chapters
