I've done this once or twice as a teenager and regretted it. It's way better if the ending is a surprise.

What I have done several times though, flip the back of the novel to make sure a character I like is still alive. It's just a quick check to make sure their name still exists and they have some dialogue. I know it’s stupid, but I can’t help it. :blobpats:
But you got to admit... it's so darn tempting!

How about you guys? Is it bad news for you if you ever try for it?

I like to prevent myself from reading the spoilers, As for me the story gets meaningless if I already know the outcome.

Never really tried it, I like reading chapters in order~

Rather, if I'm reading a manga and the translator skips some chapters because "Those chapters were covered in the anime, so you can just watch it", I just drop the manga until someone translates said chapters... >.>

I actually always do this. In fact, it's rare to find me reading a book without flipping to the end and finding out what happens. (Interestingly enough, reading the last page of the book often does not spoil anything, since it's so context heavy that I often leave more confused than enlightened.)

I'm also the kind of person who googles a movie before watching it and reads an entire summary of events, though, so I'm just really into spoilers in general. I like knowing what happens! And I often find myself enjoying most things I read/watch more the second time around (when I know everything that's going to happen and can pay attention to all the other little details).

I am quite immune to spoilers, they don't ruin things for me. Besides, reading the end just leaves me confused, since it has characters I don't know in a situation I don't know

Yes, and I justify it by repeating it's the journey that matters, not the destination, and...

I'm obviously fooling myself at this point. :blobpeek:

I do it. Every time. Welp, not solely to see if the char is alive but more like how it ended. Sometimes it's to prepare myself if the ending is tragic or something, though I hardly drop any paperbacks.

Me too I did it with ORV and was freaking confused after reading the spoilers and wiki.

But to answer the first question I used to do it on Novels that have a lot of chapters (2k+)

I also did that just to check whether it was HE or BE , and to check whether there is sequel to the novel and if yes then it meant currently the story is incomplete. I'll wait for story to complete before reading it , cause manu authors write one part and they stop and second series of novel

I was in the middle of reading a book when the thought of reading its ending came to mind. So I read it, closed the book shut, and went on to read another story. :cookie:

    Didn't do that again...

I’ve never done that, I think? I’ll flip to the end to see the page count every time I’m reading a physical book, but that’s it. I have the feeling I might have checked ahead to see if I could I see a character’s name once, for the same reasons as you, but I have no memory of this, beyond a vague feeling that it might have happened once.

I do this pretty often, either skipping ahead to some place in the middle or straight to the ending to see how the story has developed.
Sometimes it is just out of curiosity, but other times it is in order to decide if I should drop the story or not if I'm worried about how it is going.
But well, I'm generally not bothered much by spoilers, probably because I got into a habit in my early teens to just start reading a series of novels starting from the 2nd or 3rd volume if the first wasn't available at the library, sometimes it can even be quite fun to guess how the first volume went based on the information you got later in the story.
And I'm also of the mindset that if a story is really good it shouldn't really matter if you know how it goes, even if it kind of do at times.

I have sometimes randomly flipped to the middle of a book just to read some random stuff in order to see if I'm interested...

Now though, on NU, if I ever wanna know the ending, I just ask for spoilers haha

Sometimes I'll skip ahead to check when I don't like the direction the current story is going. Basically, if I'm on the verge of dropping it anyway, it doesn't matter if I get spoiled on the ending or not. Though usually I don't need to see the ending of the whole story, just the ending of the current arc.
