Have you ever wondered how traps were made, in the long-gone old days where men where men and boys had to hunt their dinner? Yes, I'm talking about the old days of 1881, when the internet, electricity, the radio, tv, and civilization still were not invented.

Then this book is for you. From William Hamilton Gibson, affectionately dedicated to the beloved friends, Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Gunn, kind instructors, and participants in the brighter joys of the author's youth", I present you "CAMP LIFE IN THE WOODS and the TRICKS OF TRAPPING and TRAP MAKING".

Containing comprehensive hints on camp shelter, log huts, bark shanties, woodland beds and bedding, boat and canoe building, and valuable suggestions on trappers' food, etc. with extended chapters on the trapper's art, containing all the "tricks" and valuable bait recipes of the profession; full dications for the use of the steel trap, and for the construction of traps of all kinds; detailed instructions for the capture of all fur-bearing animals; valuable recipes for the curing and tanning of fur skins, etc., etc.

The "original" scanned book can be read in https://archive.org/details/camplifeinwoodst00gibsrich/

If you want an ebook, Gutenberg is your place: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/17093

Now you have it, get the book and wait for the apocalypse, because right now you will have to travel far to use any of these skills and tricks. Unless you will be part of "Naked and Afraid" or "Keeping Up with the Kardashians", or your wife said you can go chill in a place with no women near.

In the old days, traps were made the same way they are made now... through cross-dressing, that is.

Sadly, I hv no book to recommend on this topic, so this meme will hv to do

In an apocalypse, I'm confident I could survive long enough to have the resources to hire people to do this kind of thing for me.

According to Black Iron's Glory you can get a rabbit and pheasant buffet if you make some type of simple nooses from vines found in the woods. Doesn't sound very beliveable, I mean people were half starving back then(relatively - since it's a fantasy world)

Traps are really hard to make. Not only the method itself, but the material for the trap too needs to be right. Without proper dressing, the trap will also be useless as a trap. In the first place, the victims must not know that they're looking at a trap. If they do know that it is a trap, they will avoid them. But then again, there will be people who trigger the trap just because they thought it's great.

They do kind of work with some luck. You either want the animal to stick its head through the nooze so it hangs itself or to stick a leg in so it is left with one leg in the air and unable to run. Birds might be a long shot unless its rather big. You might be better off using a basket trap for birds.

If they know how to make them, and it's in an area flush with rabbits or pheasants who aren't used to traps, then it's pretty possible
