Twins in this manga is taboo because there were twin devils who hurt the goddess in the previous war. The twins father died when there was a monster attack in their farm and after 6 months their mother died of overwork. The villagers then sold the twins to a merchant as human object. Human objects are not considered humans, they have no rights and they were below to slaves so even if the owner does something bad to them, there will be no consequence to the owner. Most human objects limbs are cut then displayed. On the way to a town, the twin girls got hungry in the carriage because they were only given 2 slice of hard bread.
