It really depends on what type of genre you prefer, RPG? FPS? Simulation?
My favourites at the moment are Minecraft, stardew valley and breath of the wild Zelda. I've heard the new animal crossing game is pretty good but that's not my style

Slay the spire was the first game I've bought in years and it's really good. The replayability of it is really up there especially for a single player game. Some people have been really playing for 1000 hours or more.

I'm guessing you mean pc gaming? or maybe also the switch given you checking out animal crossing and zelda? At least that's what I'll assume. There's been a LOT of great games that came out in the past 3-4 years. My most played in the past few years though are probably the Total War Warhammer series and Monster Hunter World and its expansion. For the Switch, I've been loving Fire Emblem Three Houses.

Anyways, aside from FPS type games, what are your "types"? Do you really enjoy a good story in games? or are you more of a gameplay person? Would you prefer a shorter but more well crafted game, or a sandbox/open world but formulaic game?

i have a wide range of tastes so nearly everything goes. but i do particularly like the strategy types games (having a blast with plague inc) or the ones that follow a plot (danganronpa, ddlc) and also the ones like bioshock and assassin's creed (love those visuals). id love to try out team games sometime tho. fire emblem three houses seems interesting. adding it to my list

some more to consider : Wolfenstein II (wouldn't suggest Youngblood), Cuphead, Divinity Original Sin 2, XCom 2, Prey, Nier : Automata, Resident Evil 2 Remake (not just a remaster, fully remade into a modern game), Hollow Knight, Return of the Obra Dinn, Nioh (Nioh 2, which I hear is Nioh but better and is a prequel so ez to get into, is coming out soon, think it's already out for consoles, not sure though), Dead Cells, Subnautica, and Celeste. I'm sure there's more I'm missing, it's honestly been some of the best years in terms of good games.

Slay the Spire, Dead Cells, Bad North, Hollow Knight, Into the Breach, Salt and Sanctuary, Sunless Skies, Everspace. Among other things. On the plus side, they're light enough to run on my semi-potato.

There's the second Dishonored game too, but it's not as good as the first

    All PC btw
