When listening to music, there are times when the perfect lyrics just lines up with the perfect melody. But it's not always the case so if you were to choose, would you rather have a song with good melody or good lyrics? Personally, I prefer good melody over good lyrics. Of course if the lyrics is trashy, it's still a no-go. There's only so much shortfall a good melody could cover up. I especially like upbeat songs and rock but I listen to other music genre. Well, here a song I'm currently addicted with if you're bored enough to listen to a random song... Spoiler: Midnight Thoughts by Set It Off
I prefer a good melody then good lyrics but i think good lyrics automatically follow a good melody. Maybe it's not the same for english songs. Loop of the best part of Charlotte anime op:
It depends on the mood. Sometimes, you just wanna sleep. Melody is what you need. Sometimes, you need motivation or something. Lyrics is what you need.
I have pretty much never been able to make sense of lyrics and poetry. They're both totally gibberish to me no matter how much effort I put into contemplating what they're trying to express. Nowadays a song's lyrics is just another layer of sounds.
I would say good melody over good lyrics. A lot of times for English songs, I have difficulty properly understanding all the lyrics. Additionally, I listen to music in languages in which I am not fluent, so I don't even understand the lyrics anyway. Moreover, "good lyrics" is subjective. (So is "good melody" though lol) I like this song, but one part of the lyrics is: "Who am I? Running 'round in circles just to waste the time." lol Also, does John Cage's "4'33"" have good melody?
Carlos Santana ft Rob Thomas Smooth... I was “in love” (with a boy at school) when I first heard (part of) the lyrics of that one. It took me a few years to realize that the best part of that song is actually the guitar part without words. Moreover, even with sh”ttiest lyrics the songs with Carlos Santana (well music) are still good... Currently there is a really weird song lyrics-wise on the radio, called Later Bitches by Prince Karma, honestly I’m not sure that even qualifies as “singing”, but the music is so “catchy”. So I guess I’m into music more, before words...
This happens to me when I don't understand the lyrics. The voice just registers as another simple musical instrument.
Personally, I don't listen much to Kpop or Jrock. The extent of my knowledge on this would be those I hear from my friends or in the radio.
Gosh, that song. I've memorized the lyrics of that one because of how catchy it was and how almost everyone I know is playing or singing it at one point.
