It's the same feeling of "why can't this guy get his happy ending?" when the second male lead got more development with the female protagonist. Just need to be heterosexual pair. So harem or reverse harem works. Just want a happy ending for everyone. I like to ship, even the side pair. But often, in harem story there is no side that can be paired.
