For any "expert" or "used to it" to artist out there. I want to start drawing and i'm not a little kid anymore so i can't really train since childhood. I can't even draw a table/chair or fruit without it being an alien creature. -Where do i start, in what areas? -What writing tools should i have? -What should i draw first? I can't do well when watching "Drawing Tutorial" on Youtube, i usually lost the track of it halfway through the video. Then there is the fact that...realistically i'm really easily distracted. If there is a job that required me to focus on one thing only, i will probably punch myself in the face to focus. Hmm hmm.
You pick a pen or pencil and start moving it around on a page... you try to draw upon your imagination. Seriously though try drawing real life objects - a vase, a car, a building, a person or whatever. (You do this by looking at the object and trying to re-create it in 2D on a page). The more you draw the better you become. I will find that your mind opens up and you start to see the world differently if you put in time and effort. Don't expect to be pro right away, the more you work at it the better it will look. (Am a Graphic Designer).
I've tried using pencil and it doesn't work out that much. (i will try to use pencil if i can't do without it) I'm currently using Pens and Mechanical Pencil though.
Start by trying to copy another person drawing.. try the simplest one at that.. the rest is exercise and a spirit!! Well.. you could also learn from a tips in internet or something like that
The starting point of most artists is by use of pencil. Try get some drawing books. Those are a thing that help immensely. Get ones about stuff you'd like to draw. Then the rest is just practice.
the thing about drawing for people that have no talent in it, like me, is to keep on drawing.. just draw what you want to draw in the beginning, makes you familiar with that world.. pile up exp..
I think you should draw what you like for example an character from a novel ,just go with trial an error and you'll get better(maybe) EDIT: also start simple
Just copy everything you find artistic in. Different models ofcourse. I think you will mold yourself well after the 1 million copies you do. Its more about grinding than anything.
I tried for like a week or so and videos just doesn't work on me, i usually get really distracted by other stuff in the video and forgot about the main point. Which is why i'll bookmark my post and look at the comment once in a while. (well that's my plan anyway.)
with a pencil on hand. and a piece of paper doomed to be abused, start with lines. straight lines. so straight it goes beyond space and time. and circles. perfect circles. a circle that will suck the soul out of you. followed by shading. make a line so fine as if it is not there, then gradually, increase intensity, till you make lines that suck away light. -well in other words, train your hands so that you can have proper 'control' once you got that done, try shapes, of the same sizes and angles. -learn seeing dimension. well this is basic exercises so you can draw what you want to, however, creativity and originality comes after years of experience. start by copying images. by tracing just the outlines. or by shading away the light(*advanced) and finally, patience, perseverance, and motivation.
Hi Tobi! I suggest starting little by little everyday. Everything everyone said above is great! The only thing else I can suggest is that you should stop drawing as soon as you feel tired or bored. Stop even if the drawing isn't finished! The purpose of art to me is to express what we have cooking in our creative, little minds but also to have fun while expressing it. When you lose the fun, you lose the motivation as well. Good luck in your quest to become a master artist XD
First you need to realize that it kinda ridiculous to finish a drawing on A4/A3 within 1~2 hour... or less some drawing might take days (one or two) unless it just a scribble
You start drawing, then you fail, and try again. This process you repeat over and over, until one day you'll be good. Welcome to improving your drawing skills work, by far most people who seems amazing at drawing have done exactly this, very very few people started out good, most people were just kind of mediocre.
Thank you for the advice! I have imagined many different things but just can't put it on display, which is why i posted this Discussion to ask for ideas and advice. Every single person that gave me advice here just forwarded one thing to me and that is "Draw Draw DRAW! and draw more!" To me...yeah that is a motivation, i just want to change little by little. I love art, simple as that. Time to buy a load of books and papers because i am not stopping until i drop! (i'll probably get distracted on the forum yet again)
