Me and @SquadCammander354 were talking about the legendary mechanic a day ago. I finished that one last year and it had 1400+ chapters. Typically, anything 500+ is too much for me. Just looking at the number of chapters gets me bewildered. Probably why I try to avoid CN cultivation novels and such. I don't even know how i got myself reading some novels with lots of chapters, it just so happen sometimes. Anyway, how many chapters of a novel would deter you from reading it? Does it matter if the novel is completed or not?
200 or more i guess. it depends on how much im invested with it. completed or not doesnt matter too much only if i knew beforehand it was in hiatus or etc, then i might reconsider reading it but otherwise it is a go.
It's all about the quality. If the novels maintain a steady level of it, I can rough through it. Sadly most novels don't really showcase that and quality tends to go down and get more repetitive. I have the habit of dropping novels early on, so I can count the amount of novels I read whose chapters passed 1000+ with my fingers. The longest novel I read was like 1700 chapters, and although I quite enjoyed it, there were dull and tiring moments here and there. Plus I usually read it in batches after letting it stack.
300+ is too much. I once read up to 5k chapters (which still wasn't the end), and decided to never do that again. 300 is now my max.
I use to read those crazy CN novels with 1500+ chapters more frequently. I'd say some of the ones I've enjoyed most are in the 1,200 range? Tho I have read some up to 3000+ and even dropped some at 2500~ range. For me when I was reading like that, I could stay up late and finish nearly 1,000 chapters in one go. It all depends on length of chapters in the end however. A proper webnovel/LN might have a near or actual chapter length 'chapters'. While a lot of CN ones might have only a few pages worth per 'chapter'. My top reasons for dropping the longer stories even a few hundred chapters in tho... Repetitive story arc, (similar or identical arc styles on repeat expanding the world [yet again] in the same style) Harems/sexually focused stories. If I want smut the internet has plenty of porn. I don't want 20 chapters about how someone looks and how they feel about eachother. Romance stories I have really, really liked had things subtle and powerfully demonstrated. I really felt for the character and lust was not written on the pages in anyway.
hiatus and completion bothers me a lot. I usually binge novels in one go, probably why i haven't been reading much lately coz those that interest me are ongoing while there aren't much that interest me among those completed. i forget stacks. The only reason i read the legendary mechanic was it's completed and premise seemed good enough. While reading it, it became more of a curiosity on where the story will end up. It had a weak finish tho
Yea, same. I think I stopped reading ORV like literally at the end. It just got too much for me. I really liked the novel, it wasn't ever bad, but when reading the same thing for too long you start getting curious of the outside world, you know? And you just find something else. For me the perfect lenghth is close to a hundred, but with satisfyingly long chapters. Its weird really, it feels bad to read short chapters, you feel blue balled, but when the chapter count is too many you feel its dragged out. lol
My hard limit is 1000 chapters. I refuse to read anything with 1000+ chapters in it. That said, my limit is closer to 100 chapters... More than that it usually ends up being on an eternal backlog.
that happened to me too with ORV... even now i still dunno how it ended and not like i get full spoilers from other people...
Lmao you guys, the longest chapter novel I've ever seen is picked a killer as my wife or some name like that, it has 13,664 chapters or something. 1,700 is nothing.
a funny thing about chapter numbers is the difference between jp, cn and kr novels. They seem to have quite a difference between chapter length and quality. Oh, and genre too makes a difference. or maybe I'm just imagining it
Depends on how interesting and how good the quality of the work is. Anything with like 3k+ chapters is probably a pass for me though, since stories with numbers up to there tend to just repeat the same things.
i said read though not seen. Obviously, 1700+ is nothing. And it's just a matter of preference too. I don't like mindlessly reading something when the quality obviously went bad or doesn't suit my taste anymore.
I did read mechanic too. I was bored one day and someone told me it had some of the most readable mtl. It was like 300 or so chapters from the ending when I heard that and I Just finished binging a chunk of it earlier. Since I never tried mtl before I gave it ago our curiosity
Then it's definitely 'Legend of swordsman'. One of the best novels out there but it has 5000+ and ongoing chapters.
It's upto the will of the TL on how far I'm gonna go usually XD Anyways, read anything interesting lately?
the only thing that deters me is s bad story/lack of interest the longest I've read is overgeared and that's pretty long
